Eastern Hancock Elementary School second-graders recently spent time at “Mt. Readmore” during Camping Week, in tents flashlight reading, going “fishing” and making s’mores with outside ovens made of pizza boxes.

All current Fortville Elementary School students signed their names to the last beam to be placed in the new elementary building earlier this month. Administrators, school board and staff members all came to the event as well. The current second-grade students will be the oldest in the building — fourth grade — when it opens for the 2025-26 school year.

I love to walk up and down the bookstore aisles occasionally removing something from the shelves to sample, hoping it fits my tastes. The people at Barnes and Noble are totally okay with this, but that habit has gotten me kicked out of Kroger about six times.

These students, chosen by their drivers, follow directions, speak respectfully, remain seated and are helpful.
