Local artist to share work
GREENFIELD – Hear from artist Chris Sickels and see the unveiling of the newest addition of his art installation at the Hancock County Public Library next month.
Sickels is a Greenfield-based illustrator who publishes his work under the name Red Nose Studio. He’ll explain how he sculpts 3-D figures and elaborate scenes from clay, wood, wire, paper, paint and an eclectic collection of objects. Sickels will also unveil an addition to the library’s “Over, Under and Beyond” art installation.
This presentation and the installation of “Over, Under and Beyond” are sponsored by the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library as part of the Susie Billings Lecture Series. This series is devoted to the memory of Susie, who was the treasurer of the Friends for many years.

P.A.W.S. to benefit from dining fundraiser
GREENFIELD – A local animal rescue group will benefit from a dining fundraiser this week.
Partners for Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.) will benefit from sales at all four Leo’s Market and Eatery locations.
The event is 3-7 p.m. this Friday, Nov. 8, and 20% of all Leo’s Eatery proceeds go to P.A.W.S.
Leo’s is located at 2212 W. Main St., Greenfield; 8956 N. 600W., McCordsville; 11090 E. 146th St., Noblesville; and 6009 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis.
Students hosting veterans clothing drive
GREENFIELD – A winter clothing drive to support local veterans is taking place at several locations in Hancock County.
The Greenfield-Central High School Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program is hosting the drive, collecting new or gently used coats, hats, scarves, gloves and socks. Drop off items to the high school, 810 N. Broadway St., Greenfield; the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield; or Curry’s Chapel Church, 3488 N. 375 E., Greenfield. Rise Above It returns Nov. 12
FORTVILLE – Rise Above It returns next week in an annual event that offers adults and youth a space to talk about emotional health, wellness, self-care and connect with resources.
The event is hosted by Hancock Health. This year’s event will be bigger with breakout sessions provided by the Mt. Vernon Education Foundation Parent University. It’s 5-8:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at Mt. Vernon High School, 8112 N. 200W., Fortville.
The free event includes vendors, snacks and several self-care stations including massage, weighted blanket demonstrations, exercise with music and more. Dinner and childcare are available to those who register in advance and select the options at hancockhealth.org/event/rise-above-it-2.
Shirley to host Turkey Trot event
SHIRLEY – The Turkey Trot in Shirley returns on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28.
The event is hosted by Shirley Community Visionaries. Early registration now through Nov. 9 is $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under and includes a T-shirt. Late registration after Nov. 9 is $25 and no guarantee of a shirt.
The event starts at the Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church, 309 S. Main St., Shirley. Shirt pick-up is at 7 a.m., run is at 8 a.m. and awards are at 9:15 a.m. Sign up and learn more through facebook.com/shirleyindiana.
