Early voting came to a close early Monday afternoon with a large final push as lines extended from the voting booths inside of the Greenfield branch of the Hancock County Library nearly to McKenzie Road.
Wait times were around an hour on the final day of early voting, as noted by voter Dominic Shipply, who originally came to vote early out of convenience and hope to get in and out quickly, but after getting into the line, decided it was worth the wait.
“In the current day, it is kind of hard to really know who’s going to win, just because there’s so many conflicting ideas and it just gets confusing to a point,” Shipply said. “I think voting is important because it’s the only time you actually have a say in something, even if it’s just one person against a million.”
A pair of volunteers stood outside the library as well, the front drive of which was filled to the brim with yard signs for candidates across the county. One volunteer, Holly Lawson, was supporting her husband Ethan Lawson’s run for the General Assembly while the other, Shelby Sorensen, was volunteering for Amanda Wooton’s bid for the New Palestine School Board.
Election day voting will include 12 vote sites across the county. Each will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The vote centers were divided into five regions — central, north, south, east and west — and Hancock County voters can vote at any center they choose. The vote center locations are as follows by region:
