Larry B McCarty, 88, passed away Tuesday evening, October 29, 2024, at his home in New Palestine with family at his side. He was born July 16, 1936, to Henry and Leona (McCune) McCarty at home in Ingalls, Indiana. Larry graduated from Fortville High School in 1954. After completing high school, he joined the Army in 1954 and served in the Army Corps of Engineers until 1958.

Larry started his own photography business, The Firehouse, and later the Indianapolis Photo Lab, retiring in 2003.

Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He loved the Lord, his “beautiful” wife Mary and his “beautiful” family. His hobbies included photography, restoring vehicles, woodworking and quilting with his wife Mary working on her electric sewing machine while Larry worked on his Treadle sewing machine. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on rides behind the riding lawnmower and sharing his mints. One of his grandchildren’s favorite memories is of Grandpa Larry attempting to hide the beloved Kissyfur movie in hopes he wouldn’t have to endure watching it for the thousandth time.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary McCarty; daughter, Julie (Chuck) Rogers, Son, Doug (Kristin) McCarty, daughter-in-law Paige McCarty; grandchildren Matthew (Stefanie) McCarty, Ashlee (Aaron) Fort, Rachel (Ryan) Pyles, Alexandria (Nic) Scott, Joey Rogers, Christopher (Renee) McCarty, Tyler (Jessica) McCarty, Connor McCarty, Abigail (Chace) McCarty, Emma (Justin) Dickey and 24 great-grandchildren (number 25 to be added in December and 26 and 27 due in May; brother Bill (Barb) McCarty; nieces and nephews; and his dog Millie girl.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert L McCarty; grandson, Benjamin Rogers.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 4, 2024, at Bell Mortuary &Crematory, Shangrila Chapel, 1444 W US HWY 52 Fountaintown, IN 46130 with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the mortuary. Burial will follow in the New Palestine Cemetery.
