Richard Earl Goodwin, age 77, of Greenfield, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Indiana Masonic Home in Franklin, IN. He was born in New Castle, Indiana on May 17, 1947, to Earl and Alene (Selvidge) Goodwin. Richard graduated from Greenfield High School in 1965 and attended Ball State University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant in Company G. 3rd Battalion – 101st Airborne Division – 187th Infantry during the Vietnam War and fought and was injured at Dong Ap Bia Mountain, which would later become known as “Hamburger Hill.” He was later promoted to the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star (Valor), and a Purple Heart. Richard married Dee (Tancredi) on June 19, 1971, in Beverly, New Jersey.

He was the owner of Goodwin Electronics in Greenfield for 45 years before retiring in 2014. Richard was an avid golfer, billiards player, and ping pong enthusiast. He was a member of the VFW and was inducted into the inaugural class of 2014 for the Indiana Military Veterans Hall of Fame for gallantry in action on 14 May 1969 in the Republic Vietnam.

Richard is survived by his loving wife, Dee Goodwin; children, Greg Goodwin, Ryan (Amber) Goodwin, and Adam (Kami) Goodwin; eight grandchildren, Raven Goodwin (Grant), Peyton Goodwin (Brady), Keely (Tyler) Cavaletto, Dylan Pettijohn (Sylvia), Eden Goodwin, Kinsley Goodwin, Maisie Goodwin, and Zayden Brancheau; siblings, Gary Goodwin and Debby Chambers; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend of 65 years, Allen Hackney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Alene (Selvidge) Goodwin.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will take place following the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Ed Selvidge will be officiating. Inurnment will follow at Crown Hill National Cemetery in Indianapolis with military honors rendered by the U.S. Army and Indy Metropolitan Military Honor Guard.
