INDIANAPOLIS
Katherine Ilene Hamm, 87 of Indianapolis, passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 16, 1937, in Anderson, Indiana to the late Frank &Cassie (Miller) Delong. Katherine married the love of her life, Gene Hamm, on June 20, 1981, in Indianapolis.
Katherine spent 23 of her working years as a Book Binder at Rand McNally until her retirement in 1994. Katherine loved camping, gardening, listening to country music and her Joe Joe. Above everything, she cherished her grandkids and the time she was able to spend with them.
Katherine is survived by her children, Carolyn Smith of Celina, TN; Jack VanCleave of Indianapolis; Sharon Noel of Greenfield; Diane (Phillip) Smith of Celina, TN; Joyce VanCleave of Indianapolis; Douglas Hamm of Anderson; siblings, David (Kay) Delong of Anderson; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great great-grandchildren. Katherine is preceded in death by her parents mentioned above; husband, Gene Hamm; son, Richard VanCleave; siblings, Anna Daily; Kenneth Delong; Betty Edwards; Norma Murdock; Frank Delong Jr. and infant brother, James Delong.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 18, 2024, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at 11:00am at the mortuary. Burial will follow the service at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St. Greenfield, IN 46140
