Cheeseball orders open now

GREENFIELD — The Upsilon chapter of Psi Iota Xi is taking pre-orders for its annual cheeseball fundraiser. Money raised supports speech and hearing, art, literature and music efforts in Hancock County.

Cheeseballs is the organization’s largest fundraiser. The chapter will be following health protocols and always prepares cheeseballs in a commercial kitchen with supervision of a food service professional. Cheeseballs will be ready for pick-up or delivery in mid-November.

Cheeseballs are available for pre-order. They are $8 each and come in savory and chocolate chip dessert flavors. Savory cheeseballs can be ordered rolled in nuts or without nuts. To order, please text (preferred) or call Katie Ottinger at 317-318-8313.

The Upsilon chapter will also have a booth at the Greenfield-Central High School Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 7 to sell cheeseballs. No advance order necessary at the bazaar; items will be sold first-come, first-served while supplies last.

Psi Iota Xi, founded in 1897 in Muncie, Ind., is a women’s philanthropic organization with chapters throughout the Midwestern United States. Psi Iota Xi chapters are focused on raising money and offering volunteer service to improve the quality of life in their communities. Membership in Psi Iota Xi is open to any female 18 years of age and older. Those interested in membership can also contact Ottinger.

Retired teachers group names officers for new year

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Retired Teachers Association met on Sept. 11, at Nameless Creek Youth Camp for the first meeting of the new year.

The new officers for 2024-2026 were installed by Marty Mullin, the area seven director. Officers are Susan Geesa, president; Jim Pentzer, vice president; Sandy Parker, treasurer; Peggy Carson, secretary.

The chapter collected money to purchase books for the Bentley’s Buddies and Friends, their chosen organization to support for this year.

Joanie Thieme, the Benefits Representative from Association Member Benefits Advisors detailed the many benefits available to members of Indiana Retired Teachers Association, who are automatically members of AMBA by joining the state organization.

Linda Bell was the winner in the drawing for a Panera Bread gift card, provided by AMBA. The next meeting of the Hancock County Retired Teachers Association will be held at the Lodge at Nameless Creek Youth Camp at 11 a.m. Nov. 13. For more information, email [email protected].

Downtown history tour coming up

GREENFIELD – Take a free guided walking tour of historic downtown Greenfield In a “Now and Then” event hosted by Greenfield Historic Landmarks.

The event is at 2 p.m. Oct. 20 starting at the Hancock County Courthouse. The tour will allow participants to compare what the Hancock County Courthouse Square Historic District looks like now, compared to “then” photos from the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The tour will take 60 to 90 minutes and will be about 10 blocks, or one mile, in length. Meet at the Courthouse Plaza Gazebo located on the southwest corner of the Courthouse Square.

Shrine group to host meal, meeting

GREENFIELD – The next meeting of the Hancock County Shrine Club will be at 6:30 p.m. Oct 22 at the Fraternal Order of Police, 400 E. Davis Road, Greenfield.

Guild to host miniature quilt meeting

GREENFIELD – The Common Threads Quilt Guild will host a meeting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 16.

Miniature quilts will be the topic, featuring speaker Glo Stahlhut. She will also have a trunk show with fabric backings. The meeting is open to anyone who would like to try the guild; it’s at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield.

Rotary food drive coming up

GREENFIELD – The Rotary Club of Greenfield is hosting its annual Fill A Truck Fill A Pantry drive.

The event is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at Walmart in Greenfield, on the north end of the parking lot.

Items needed include non-perishable foods, canned foods, dry cereals and baby food. Donation recipients are Shirley Wilkinson United Methodist Church; Fortville Area Rescue Mission; Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen; Hancock County Food Pantry; Cross of Grace; and Brandywine Community Church. Monetary donations are also accepted, and recognition will be given for those who make a $100 (bronze), $250 (silver) or $500 (gold) donation.

Chamber to host veterans lunch, women’s conference

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Chamber of Commerce has two events coming up in November.

Invite a Veteran to Lunch is an annual tradition, set for noon Nov. 5 at the Community Foundation of Hancock County’s Thrive Center, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. Working women nominations open

GREENFIELD – An outstanding working women of Hancock County will be honored in November, and nominations are open now.

The Hancock County Business and Professional Women’s Club is preparing to celebrate Indiana Federation of Business and Professional Working Women’s Month in November by honoring an outstanding working woman from Hancock County.

The qualities that a working woman nominee must exhibit should include passion, generosity, commitment, optimism and/or supportiveness.

A written nomination should be submitted by Oct. 28 to Carole Stevens,

[email protected]. The nomination should include the name of the woman being nominated, contact information and the reason for nomination.
