ST. JOHNS, FL

Paul Eugene Greenwalt, 82, formerly of Indiana and most recently a resident of St Johns, Florida, went to his heavenly home with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

Paul was a medically retired Army Officer from wounds received during the Tet Offensive of 1968. He was awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart with First Oak Leaf Cluster among many other awards and decorations. His military career spanned from 1960 to 1968. He was commissioned an Officer in 1966 at Ft. Benning, Infantry OCS as an outstanding graduate.

As a civilian he served as Deputy Director of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. He truly found his calling in this position. He was also the recipient of two Sagamore of Wabash awards.

Paul was a 50+ years member of the Golden Rule Masonic Lodge No. 16 in Knightstown, Indiana and also a Past Master of this Lodge. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

A little known fact about Paul is that he was awarded a Kentucky Colonel by the governor of Kentucky for work he accomplished on the boundaries of the Ohio River. Coach Bobby Knight visited Paul’s office one day and was upset that the Kentucky Colonel plaque was hung a couple of inches higher than the Sagamore on the wall, he told Bobby, it’s my office! No more was said.

Paul loved the Lord and testified through song. He loved to sing His praises. He also loved to fish, hunt, and be outdoors with friends and family. He was delighted for family and friends to visit and spend time with them.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Dennis; his brother, Max and sister-in-law, Loretta Greenwalt; and his parents, Floyd and Mary (Bloom) Greenwalt.

Paul is survived by his wife of 38 years, Robin (Brewer), daughter Terri Greenwalt, daughter Beth (Jim) Clark, son John (Mary) Greenwalt.
