Children’s programs coming to libraries

GREENFIELD – Programs for children are coming up in October at local libraries.

The Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield will host Monster Bash for grades 2-5 is Oct. 16; a Minecraft game night Oct. 21; and a Mad Scientists program for ages 5-10 Oct. 24.

At the HCPL in New Palestine, Pals and PJs for ages 3-7 is Oct. 9; Rhythm & Hues is Oct. 10; and Science Squad, Oct. 15.

The Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville will host a weaving program for children Oct. 9; Play & Learn Storytimes every Wednesday; Little Learners Oct. 28; and Homeschool Nature club Oct. 25. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for more.

Bentley’s Buddies and Friends reading therapy dogs will be at the VTPL Oct. 19; and at both locations of the HCPL Oct. 20.

Weed prevention events coming up

FORTVILLE – Volunteer to eradicate invasive species in upcoming weed wrangle events.

The Hancock County CISMA Invasive Species Management is seeking volunteers for weed wrangles. Help remove invasive species in Hancock County at three upcoming events: 9:30 to noon Oct. 12 at Brandywine Park (Greenfield); 9:30 to noon Oct. 19 at The Gardens of Vernon Township (Fortville); and 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at Beckenholdt Park (Greenfield).

Meet in the parking lot of the park and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Loppers and gloves are provided, or bring your own. Snacks and drinks are also provided. The event will be canceled in inclement weather. Learn more by emailing Director Jenni Leary, [email protected].

Humane society to benefit from dining event

GREENFIELD – A local pet rescue group will benefit from a dining event Oct. 16.

Culver’s will donate a percentage of purchases from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 16 to the Hancock County Humane Society’s shelter. No flyer is required. The restaurant is located at 1846 N. State St., Greenfield.

Harvest Days sale benefits hospital volunteer fund

GREENFIELD – Hancock Health Volunteer Services will host its annual Harvest Days fundraiser sales event in October.

The event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 9-11 at the Robert Keen Room next to the lower level lobby of Hancock Regional Hospital. The gift shop will have displays that feature holiday items, home decor, baby and children’s items, clothing and more. Local retail vendors include J. Evelyn Confections, Tuttle Orchards and Udders-N Suds LLC Luxury Goat Milk Bath Products.

Proceeds benefit the Volunteer Services Fund, which pays for special requests such as a new bed for the sleep center or supplies for the women’s center.

Women Helping Women hosting fundraiser

GREENFIELD – The Hancock Health Foundation will raise money in a basketball-themed event this fall.

Hoops for Women’s Health is 6-10 p.m. Oct. 25 at Embassy Suites, 13700 Conference Center Drive S., Noblesville.

Speaker is Andrea Morehead Allen, an Emmy-winning former news anchor and journalist.

Tickets are $125 and basketball fan attire is encouraged. The event is through Women Helping Women, and proceeds benefit the women’s clinic at Hancock Health, ensuring healthcare access for hundreds of local women in need.
