Bike share, splash pad to close for season

GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Parks Department will close the splash pad at Riley Park and the community’s bike share program for the season.

The final day for both is this Friday, Oct. 4. Afterward, the bikes will be put away for the season and the water will be turned off for the splash pad. The department also recently warned the community on social media that pedestrian/biking trails may be slick this fall due to wet leaves.

Boots & Bourbon set for Oct. 19

GREENFIELD – Boots & Bourbon returns Oct. 19, raising money for a local nonprofit organization.

The bourbon, spirits and wine-tasting event is set for 5-9 p.m. Oct. 19 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. The event benefits Meals on Wheels of Hancock County, a nonprofit, medically-tailored meal delivery program.

Expect live music and entertainment, gourmet food pairings, and meet-and-greet with industry experts. VIP packages include one hour of special reserve bourbon tasting before the general public as well as swag and cigar pairings.

Tickets are $50 for general admission at 6 p.m.; $75 for VIP admission at 5 p.m.; and $20 for a safe driver ticket. Learn more at bootsandbourbon.org.

Children’s programs coming to libraries

GREENFIELD – Programs for children are coming up in October at local libraries.

The Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield will host Monster Bash for grades 2-5 is Oct. 16; a Minecraft game night Oct. 21; and a Mad Scientists program for ages 5-10 Oct. 24.

At the HCPL in New Palestine, a Gouls and Ghosts Dance Party is from 5-7 pm. Oct. 3; Pals and PJs for ages 3-7 is Oct. 9; Rhythm & Hues is Oct. 10; and Science Squad, Oct. 15.

Herbal teas, recipes to be featured at event

GREENFIELD – Herbal teas will be the program topic at the Hancock County Herb Society meeting in October.

Joyce Miler of Rushville’s Huckleberry Hutch will discuss how to gather and prepare ingredients for making herbal teas, then make and share some of her favorite recipes.

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at Lizabuth Ann’s Kitchen, located behind the James Whitcomb Riley Boyhood Home and Museum, 250 W. Main St., Greenfield.
