Libraries to host book clubs, events

GREENFIELD – Book clubs and a concert are coming up for adults at local libraries in Hancock County.

The Craig Brenner Trio performs Oct. 10 at the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield. The blues, boogie-woogie and jazz pianist Brenner is a composer, teacher and recipient of multiple arts grants.

Literary discussions include a Brown Bag Book Club Oct. 8 on “The Frozen River,” and Writers Helping Writers Oct. 17, both at the HCPL in Greenfield. A genealogy event is Oct. 9 in Greenfield; and Adult Crafternoon Club is Oct. 15. Learn more and register for events at hcplibrary.org.

At the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville, the Tuesday Morning Club continues for seniors each week. An adult Horror Book Club will be Oct. 16 at Scarlet Lane Brewing Company, 7724 Depot St., McCordsville. “Addams Family” on stage this weekend

NEW PALESTINE — “The Addams Family: A New Musical Comedy” is coming to the stage this weekend in New Palestine.

New Palestine High School students will perform at the NPHS Auditorium at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Tickets are $8 for students and $10 for adults.

The school is located at 4485 Victory Drive, New Palestine.

Family opera performance coming to libraries

GREENFIELD – The Indianapolis Opera presents a new children’s opera called “The Bunny of Seville” at local libraries this month.

The bite-sized version of Rossini’s famous “The Barber of Seville” is filled with catchy tunes, silly antics and lots of heart, according to the Hancock County Public Library’s website. The performance is geared towards kids of all ages, and kids at heart.

Public safety day coming up

FORTVILLE – A community event featuring public safety vehicles and demonstrations is coming up in Fortville.

The Vernon Township Public Safety Day will feature touch-a-truck, vendors, helicopter, vehicle extrication demo and a kids zone. The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at Station 431, 600 Vitality Drive, Fortville.
