Local trustee earns Rising Star Award

GREENFIELD – Center Township Trustee Thomas Lopez recently received the Rising Star Award from the Indiana Township Association Conference.

The ITA works to strengthen and extend government and support elected officials professionally. The event was Sept. 15-18 in Indianapolis; awards were given to township officers demonstrating leadership abilities and contributing to leadership development. They are for office holders who exhibit exceptional merit that go beyond expectations.

EH to host community meeting

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock schools will host its first community engagement meeting for the 2024-25 school year in October.

The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Thrive Center of the Community Foundation of Hancock County, 971 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield. The meeting is an event for community members to hear updates about the school corporation and gather input from community partners to continue to improve collaboration and opportunities for students. Old School Park closed for renovations

MCCORDSVILLE – Old School Park in McCordsville is now closed for park renovations.

The park is located at 6030 W. 750N., McCordsville. Renovations include upgraded playground and basketball court; a larger shelter, restroom building, hardscaping, landscaping and relocation of the old school monument.

Public safety day coming up

FORTVILLE – A community event featuring public safety vehicles and demonstrations is coming up in Fortville.

The Vernon Township Public Safety Day will feature touch-a-truck, vendors, helicopter, vehicle extrication demo and a kids zone. The event is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at Station 431, 600 Vitality Drive, Fortville.

McCordsville to host events in McCord Square

MCCORDSVILLE – The town of McCordsville will host community events in the new McCord Square Oct. 6.

Market in McCordsville and Cars & Coffee events are scheduled Oct. 6 at the new site, 5811 Main St., McCordsville

Cars and Coffee is from 9-11 a.m. The free community event accepts all vehicle makes, models and years.

The Market in McCordsville runs from 1-4 p.m. Local crafters, artisans, farmers and home-based businesses are on site. Admission and parking are free.
