New Palestine’s volleyball team, 17-0 and ranked No. 6 in the Indiana High School Volleyball Coaches Association Class 3A Z-Ratings, went 3-0 Saturday and won the Greenwood Invitational.

The Dragons beat Bishop Chatard 2-0 by set scores of 25-19, 25-13, Decatur Central 2-0 by set scores of 25-10, 25-13 and Scecina 2-1 by set scores of 25-21, 23-25, 17-15.

It was the Dragons second win of the season over Scecina. They defeated the Crusaders 3-1 in the season opener last month.

Against Chatard, Hayden Ramsey and Natalie Sevier had 10 and seven kills, respectively. Azure Flagle had 13 digs.

Versus DC, Ramsey had seven kills and two service aces. Flagle had 11 digs and Kyndra Monteith recorded five digs.

In the win over Scecina, Ramsey had 14 kills. Sevier had eight. Josie Corbett and Caylee Brown had seven kills each.

Setter Sam Gooding had 33 assists.

The Dragons, 1-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, host Delta (5-4, 1-3) in a conference match Tuesday.

Royals win at Tri

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory at Tri (4-6) Saturday.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-20, 30-28, 25-19.

Eastern Hancock (13-4, 4-1) is back in action tonight in a Mid-Eastern Conference match at Randolph Southern (4-6, 0-1)

Boys cross country

Marauders 5th at Eagle Classic Elite

In a field full of state-ranked teams, Mt. Vernon’s 9th-ranked boys cross country team placed fifth in the Elite Division race at the Brown County Eagle Classic Saturday.

There were 17 teams in the race.

No. 1 Brownsburg won with a score of 48. No. 3 Columbus North had 75. No. 4 Carmel followed with 114. No. 5 Bloomington North scored 137 and the Marauders followed with 160.

Mt. Vernon finished ahead of state-ranked schools No. 10 Franklin Central, No. 14 Zionsville, No. 16 Center Grove, No. 17 Avon, No. 19 North Central, and No. 20 Floyd Central.

Ahmed Saleh led Mt. Vernon with a ninth-place finish. He ran the 5K course in 15:43. Caden Cassada was 19th in 16:01. Xaiden Jenson placed 35th in 16:14. Brayden Strantz finished 49th in 16:29 and Austin Baugh was 70th in 16:50.

There were 160 runners in the race.

Mt. Vernon returns to action Saturday at the Golden Bear Invitational in Shelbyville.

Markley 2nd, Royals 4th at Blackford

Eastern Hancock’s Preston Markley placed second and the Royals boys cross country team finished fourth at the Blackford Invitational Saturday.

Markley ran the 5K course in 17:07. Andrew Metz was 13th in 19:02.9. Caden Powers placed 21st in 19:39.40. Jud West finished 42nd in 23:07.30. Davis Decker placed 45th in 23:25.40.

Lapel’s Simon Nickelson won the race in 16:27.8. South Adams won the team competition.

Eastern Hancock is back in action Tuesday in the New Castle Invitational at Memorial Park.

Dragons runners-up at Whiteland

New Palestine’s boys cross country team was second out of 13 teams at Saturday’s Whiteland Invitational.

Host Whiteland won with 31 points. New Palestine scored 87 and third-place Greenwood finished with 122.

Gavin Smith was the fastest Dragon, placing 11th on the 5K course with a time of 17:40.33. Close behind were teammates Mike Bauer and Jake Cooper. Bauer was 12th in 17:44.30. Cooper finished 14th in 17:45.43.

Also for the Dragons, Carson Cooper was 20th in 18:12.25 and Sam Ragsdale placed 32nd in 18:41.88.

Whiteland’s Colton Watson was the individual champion with a time of 16:40.46.

The Dragons next race is the Golden Bear Invitational in Shelbyville on Saturday.

G-C 10th at IWU

In a strong field at the Wildcat Classic Invitational at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Greenfield-Central’s boys cross country team finished 10th in a 44-team field.

Second-ranked Noblesville won the event with 50 points. No. 8 Hamilton Southeastern, No. 18 Lake Central, No. 21 Westfield and No. 25 West Lafayette were among the teams competing. Greenfield-Central scored 341.

The Cougars top runner was Henry Rahe. He was 40th with a 5K time of 16:49.7. David Wasson finished 66th in 17:19.50. Peter Hummel placed 70th in 17:23.30. Bryce Cotterman was 76th in 17:32.40 and Braylon Mumaugh finished 80th in 17:35.50.

Greenfield-Central will compete in the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational at Northview Church in Carmel Saturday.

Girls cross country

Cole, Cougars win Mitchell Invitational

Adalyn Cole was the individual winner and the Greenfield-Central girls cross country team won the Jon Mitchell Invitational, hosted by Cascade High School, Saturday.

Cole won the 5K race in 21:00.52. Kendall Barrett was fourth in 21:36.28 and Lexie Copeland placed fifth in 22:02.79.

G-C won with 31 points. Crawfordsville was second with 80 points. There were nine teams in the race.

For the Cougars, Taylor Cooksey added a seventh-place finish in 22:50.65 and Harper Rahe was 15th in 23:48.67.

Greenfield-Central will compete in the Riverview Health Flashrock Invitational at Northview Church in Carmel Saturday.

New Pal 3rd at Whiteland

New Palestine’s girls cross country team finished third of 12 teams at the Whiteland Invitational Saturday.

The Dragons were led by a seventh-place finish from Abby Journay. She ran the 5K course in 21:09.99.

Whiteland won with a score of 40. Greenwood had 73 and New Palestine finished with 97, one point ahead of fourth-place Eastern Greene.

After Journay, Taylor Burke and Addison Uhl each had top 20 runs. Burke was 15th in 21:55.93 and Uhl crossed the line in 22:13.39.

Taylor Stone finished 26th in 22:53.56 and Heidi Bloomer was 31st in 23:00.03.

The Dragons next race is the Golden Bear Invitational in Shelbyville on Saturday.

Mt. Vernon competes in Elite Division

Mt. Vernon’s girls cross country team placed 17th in the 17-team field in the Elite Division of the Eagle Classic hosted by Brown County.

The 5K race included 12 state-ranked teams and was won by No. 1 Carmel with 59 points.

Pendleton Heights’ Ava Jarrell was the individual winner with a time of 17:38.

Mt. Vernon’s top runner, Hannah Hauser, was 52nd in 20:01. There were 164 runners in the race.

Lillian Quinn was 114th in 21:28. Chesnie Willis finished 120th in 21:39. Emma Gale placed 130th in 21:53 and Ella Sinn was 141st in 22:10.

Mt. Vernon returns to action Saturday at the Golden Bear Invitational in Shelbyville.

Johnson 2nd at Blackford

Eastern Hancock’s Sydney Johnson finished second in the Blackford Invitational Saturday.

Centerville’s Anna Nevels won the 5K race in 20:40.60. Johnson was close behind in 20:49.60.

The Royals girls cross country team did not have enough runners for a team score. South Adams won the team event.

For the Royals, Kaylee Swan was 17th (24:57.00) and Riley Williams finished 49th (39:05.70).

Eastern Hancock is back in action Tuesday in the New Castle Invitational at Memorial Park.

Girls soccer

Marauders remain unbeaten in HHC

Mt. Vernon’s girls soccer team kept its record perfect in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with an 8-1 win over visiting Yorktown (5-4-2, 1-4) Saturday.

Reagan Britt scored four goals and Kylie Brandes had a goal and six assists in the win. Sabrina Geryak had a goal and an assist. Hannah Monroe and Ava Parker each added goals.

The Marauders had four goals in each half.

The Marauders are 5-0 in the HHC and 7-0-3 overall. They also moved into the Class 3A Indiana Soccer Coaches Association poll tied with Chesterton at No. 20.

Mt. Vernon travels to No. 11 Center Grove (7-2) Wednesday

Cougars lose close one at home

Greenfield-Central dropped a 1-0 decision Saturday, at home, to Columbus North (7-1-1).

Goalkeeper Caroline Felver had six saves.

The Cougars (2-7, 1-3) return to action Wednesday with a Hoosier Heritage Conference contest at New Palestine (7-2, 4-1).

Boys soccer

Dragons lose at LN

New Palestine’s boys soccer team lost 4-0 at Lawrence North (7-2) Saturday.

Three of the Wildcats four goals came in the second half.

The Dragons (5-5) are back in action Tuesday with a home match against Greenwood.
