New Palestine’s girls volleyball team improved to 10-0 with a 3-0 sweep at Whiteland Thursday.

The Dragons won by set scores of 25-11, 25-8, 25-11.

Setter Sam Gooding had 37 assists to go with five digs and three service aces.

Libero Azure Flagle had 18 digs, two kills and an ace.

Hayden Ramsey led the attack with 12 kills and also had two blocks. Natalie Sevier recorded nine kills and 12 digs.

The balanced attack included nine kills from Josie Corbett and eight from Caylee Brown.

Kyndra Monteith contributed eight digs.

Boys soccer

Marauders tie No. 10 Fishers

Mt. Vernon’s boys soccer team played to a 1-1 tie against visiting Class 3A No. 10 Fishers Thursday.

The Marauders goal came from Drew Lynch, assisted by Charlie Cole.

Dragons fall to Flashes

Franklin Central scored four second-half goals to defeat New Palestine’s boys soccer team 4-2 Thursday at Franklin Central.

New Palestine got goals from Mark Everett and Paxton Holmes, on a penalty kick. Eli Martin had an assist.

The Dragons are 2-3 on the season.

Cougars lose HHC match

Greenfield-Central dropped its opening Hoosier Heritage Conference boys soccer match at home to Yorktown Thursday, 2-0.

The Cougars are 0-4 overall and 0-1 in the HHC. Yorktown improved to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Girls soccer

Dragons win conference opener

Co-champions a year ago in the Hoosier Heritage Conference, New Palestine’s girls soccer team got its 2024 HHC season off to a good start with a 7-0 victory at New Castle Thursday.

Gabby Brown and Tylar Whitaker each had hat tricks and one assist. It was Brown’s third hat trick of the season.

She has nine goals in four games. Whitaker has eight goals and six assists.

On Thursday, Nevaeh Gebhart also had a goal.

Brooke Tanksley had two assists and Rylee Hurst and Shaylee Frank also had assists.

The Dragons are 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the HHC. New Castle is 1-4 and 0-2.

Boys tennis

Dragons improve to 7-1

New Palestine’s boys tennis team defeated visiting Shenandoah 5-0 Thursday. It was the Dragons fourth win in as many days.

Arjomand Khokhar did not lose a game in victory at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

The Dragons won the other singles matches in straight sets. At No. 2, Joey McPike won 6-3, 6-3 and at No. 3 Joel Dorval won 6-3, 6-2.

In the closest match of the day, Moses Haynes and Max Havel won at No. 1 doubles, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-2 in a super tie-breaker.

At No. 2 doubles, Jesse Isaacs and Luke Bartusek won 6-0, 6-3.

Girls golf

MV beats PH

Mt. Vernon’s girls golf team defeated Pendleton Heights 166-173 at Arrowhead Golf Course Thursday.

For the Marauders, Izzy VanHeel, Natalie Miner and Marissa Miner all shot 41s.

Kylie Hyde and Guinevere Williams each finished with 43s.

Royals compete at Royal Hylands

Eastern Hancock’s girls golf team shot a 219 in a match at their home course at Royal Hylands Thursday.

Northeastern won the meet, that also included Blue River Valley, with a score of 190. Blue River Valley did not have enough players for a team score.
