Portrait art on display
GREENFIELD – Portrait Society of America has its regional art exhibit in downtown Greenfield this month.
See works by portrait artists across the Midwest at the Twenty north Gallery, 20 N. State St., Greenfield.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The portrait exhibit is on display through Aug. 31. Visit hancockcountyarts.org for more.
Live entertainment coming to outdoor venues
GREENFIELD – Several free concerts are coming to Hancock County’s outdoor venues.
Jai Baker performs at 7 p.m. this Friday, Aug. 24 in New Palestine, as part of the Music on Depot Street series on East Main Street, New Palestine.
Tad Robinson will perform with a horn section Aug. 30 at Depot Street Park in Greenfield. Special blues opening acts are Black Jack Davey and the Rhythm Kings. Thunderstruck, an AC/DC tribute band, returns to Greenfield Aug. 31 at Depot Street Park, with opening act Hunter Lee Band.
In Cumberland, the Blues, Beer & BBQ monthly tradition continues Aug. 30 with The Blue Sky Dogs, Zach Day and Gordon Bonham from 6-10 p.m. in downtown Cumberland.
Benefit car show coming to New Pal
NEW PALESTINE – The second annual Anything On Wheels car show benefiting Whalens Heroes is coming up in New Palestine.
The event is 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. this Sunday, Aug. 25 at the New Palestine Lions Club, 5242 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. The event features a food truck, raffle, silent auction and more. Whalens Heroes funds service dogs for veterans. Learn more at whalensheroes.org/events.
Hancock Flat 50 returns Aug. 24
GREENFIELD – The Hancock Flat 50 is coming up this Saturday, Aug. 24.
The annual event featuring a bicycle ride and festival with music, food and drinks has been happening every August since 2016. Participants have increased from 150 cyclists the inaugural year to more than 750 in 2023. The chip-timed event is for experienced riders or a more leisurely ride with friends; a 25-mile route is also available. Cost is $50; proceeds help support the local trails systems and other biking initiatives throughout Hancock County. Learn more and register at hancockflat50.com.
Bowling event to benefit soup kitchen
GREENFIELD — Strike Force Lanes will host a Strike out Hunger event this month, benefiting the Kenneth butler Memorial Soup Kitchen.
The bowling fundraiser is Aug. 25 at 1539 W. Main St., Greenfield. Form a bowling team at $25 per person. Bowling is 1-4 p.m. and the event also includes face painting, balloon twisting, silent auction, raffle and door prizes.
