OWASSO
Eleck Collins, age 92, passed away on August 7, 2024, with family members by his side. He resided at his daughter’s home in Owasso, Oklahoma. He was born June 22, 1932, in Bath, Kentucky to James Robert and Mallie (Amburgey) Collins and was one of 23 children. Eleck was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the time of the Korean War. He was married to Esther (Moody) Collins (now deceased) for 65 years and together they lived a long and happy life.
Eleck was a very talented craftsman and builder. His construction career spanned 60 years and had a lot to show for it. You could say he built Castleton. He owned Collins Drywall for 60 years before putting away the scaffolding and turning the business over to his son Randy. He and his wife Esther owned Esther’s Cafe in Fortville during the 1960s.
Bluegrass music, fishing, gardening and old Westerns were a few of his favorite things. He would work from sun-up to sun-down in his gardens in Fortville; maybe stopping for an ice-cold root beer. His hands worked hard so he could provide for his family.
He was a devoted husband, father &grandfather ~ oh how he loved his grandkids! He was a great storyteller and jokester!
Eleck is survived by his three adult children: Billy Wayne of Fortville, Randy of Fortville (Cyndi Collins &her son Nolan Cardenas); daughter Janetta (Bill) Sandlin of Owasso, Oklahoma; grandkids Shelby Collins (John Hussung), Amanda, David, &Carissa Sandlin; sisters Marlene Moore, Edna Wilson, Jeanette Evans and Sharon Kay McIntire as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
