VILLAGES, FL
Gregory Wayne Rock was born on April 11, 1964, and passed away on April 16, 2024, at Cornerstone Hospice House in the Villages, FL, while surrounded by family and friends after a two-and-a-half-year battle with Esophageal Cancer.
Greg was born in Waynesboro, PA, the first of three children. When he was a toddler, his family moved to Pittsburgh, PA and a short time later to the Indianapolis, IN area. Greg graduated from the New Palestine High School in 1982. He continued to follow his high school football team, the Dragons, and shared the scores of their state championship games with the rest of the family. He became a life-long fan of the Indianapolis Colts, the Indiana Pacers, and loved attending the Indianapolis 500 and other INDY Car races. Those races that he couldn’t attend, he followed on television or on streaming services.
Greg graduated from Indiana State University with dual degrees in Criminology and Economics in 1986. In 1987, he then began his career in the Central Intelligence Agency, first as an Officer in the Security Protective Service, providing protection to Classified information, Facilities, and Agency Officers worldwide. Two years later he converted into the Office of Finance as a Finance Resource Officer. 15 years later he became a Budget Officer. He met Rebecca (Becky), who was also working for the CIA, in 1990. They were married in 1992 and were blessed with a son, Alexander, in 1997.
Greg visited many countries during his career and he and his family had a three-year assignment to Frankfurt, Germany, which started just before 9/11. He was involved in the fight against terrorism throughout the rest of his career.
Greg and Becky retired in the summer of 2020 after their 33-year careers at the Central Intelligence Agency and moved from Ashburn, Virginia to The Villages, Florida in late July 2021, into the Village of St. Catherine.
Greg is survived by his wife, Becky (nee Shaw) and son Alex; his mother, Sheila Rock (nee Tuuri), sister Julie Winzer (nee Rock) and her husband Mark, and sister Jennifer Andersen (nee Rock). He is also survived by niece Lynnette Posey (nee Andersen), nephew Zach Winzer, niece Erin Andersen, niece Abby Winzer, nephew Aiden Andersen, and great-nephews Wyatt, Duke, Jack and Jase Posey. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Gary Rock.
Greg’s life was celebrated on April 19 with family and close friends. Gifts in memory of Greg can be made in his name to St. Jude, as he felt children shouldn’t have to be burdened with cancer.
Condolences can be sent to Becky and Alex Rock, 519 Mincey Loop, The Villages, Florida 32163.
