CUMBERLAND — The town of Cumberland will unveil its newest pocket park, Music on Pennsy, in September.

Music on Pennsy is set to transform an existing underutilized node along the Pennsy Trail into an interactive musical playground. According to a press release from the town, the pocket park will feature an array of nature-themed musical playground equipment, including xylophones, bongos, steel drums and more. It will also feature a music-themed ground mural, inviting residents of all ages to experience the joy of making music amidst nature. Located along the Pennsy Trail between South County Line Road and CR 700 West, this initiative aims to revitalize an underutilized section of the trail.

The closest trailhead access is at 11800 Warehouse Road. In 2025, a new trailhead access with parking will open in The Hub at Pennsy Trail.

“Cumberland has prioritized parks and trails over the last decade connecting almost every neighborhood in town,” said Christine Owens, assistant town manager. “While we are actively working to connect the remaining neighborhoods, it’s exciting to add new spaces for residents to enjoy. We hope the community will enjoy stopping at Music on Pennsy while out on the trails.”

Nearly all of the project was funded by donors, including Iron Trail at the Hub by Spectra, MIBOR, the Community Foundation of Hancock County, and RASK.

The park’s ribbon-cutting ceremony will be 10 a.m. Sept. 14 and is open to the public. The event will take place at 11800 Warehouse Road, Indianapolis, with parking available on-site. The new musical pocket park is located roughly one-third of a mile east on the Pennsy Trail. Celebrate the park’s opening with light refreshments and music.
