Book donations accepted at HCPL

GREENFIELD — Clean out your shelves and get a tax break for helping the Hancock County Public Library. Drop off your gently used books, DVDs, CDs and video games at the Bookmobile garage (north side) in Greenfield from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

A volunteer will assist with deliveries; lease request your tax receipt at the same time.

Because of limited space, donations can only be made on specified dates.

The Friends of the Library is a non-profit, charitable group of volunteers who raise money through the sale of donated items. Proceeds help fund concerts, children’s performers, and special projects at the library. The sale is coming up Aug. 15-19.

Community Day returns to Cumberland Saturday

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Police Department will host Community Day, a free event celebrating community and public safety.

This family-friendly event is set for 3-5 p.m. Aug. 10 and features activities for all ages, including community partner booths with giveaways, an interactive Touch-a-Truck exhibit, public safety demonstrations, and a Junior Detective activity. Enjoy complimentary hotdogs, shaved ice, and face painting while exploring incredible community partners like IMPD Mounted Patrol, Sugar Creek Fire, Hancock County SWAT, the Red Cross, and more.

Women’s resource fundraiser coming up

GREENFIELD – Power of the Purse, an event in support of the Women’s Resource Center of Hancock County, is coming up this month.

The event will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Bradley Hall, 2 W. Main St., Greenfield. Music and appetizers will be served, with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. The theme of the event is “Champion Women for Positive Change.”

Founded in 2014, the Women’s Resource Center has a mission to provide mentoring, guidance, and connection to programs and services that help women and their families achieve self-sufficiency.

Craft swap coming to local libraries

GREENFIELD — The Hancock County Public Library will be hosting a Craft Swap throughout the month of August at both library locations in Greenfield and New Palestine.

Clear out closets and donate new or gently-used crafting supplies anytime during Drop-Off Week, Aug. 12-19.

Those who drop off items will receive a pickup ticket. Bring the ticket to Pickup Day 1 on Aug. 24, to snag some new-to-you crafting supplies. Pickup Day 2 is Aug. 25 and will be open to anyone.

All types of gently-used supplies are welcome, including yarn, fabric, scrapbook paper, painting supplies, or crafting tools. The main library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.
