Leadership class applications open

GREENFIELD – Leadership Hancock County is now accepting applications for the 2024-2025 class. Applications are due no later than Aug. 13, and class size is limited. Visit www.LeadHC.org to complete and submit the application.

Leadership Hancock County strives to empower leaders through education and connections, cultivating growth in our community.

Class sessions are held once monthly from September 2024 to May 2025. Full day sessions include two retreat days, non-profit and community issues day, local business and agriculture day, history day, government day, servant leadership and situational leadership.

Libraries to host family programs in August

GREENFIELD – Programs for teens and children are coming up at local libraries throughout Hancock County this month.

Teens in grades 6-12 can learn basic codes of robots in an event Aug. 12 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. A teen and tween chess club is Aug. 15 at the Sugar Creek branch of the HCPL, 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Bentley’s Buddies and Friends will be at both HCPL libraries Aug. 18.

People of all ages are welcome to a drum circle in Greenfield Aug. 7, or participate in a craft supply swap throughout the month. Visit hcplbirary.org to register to events and learn more, or call 317-462-5141.

Pool party for dogs this August

GREENFIELD – The annual pool party for dogs and their humans returns this August.

Partners in Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S. Hancock) hosts the event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 10 at the Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center, the community pool in Riley Park. Cost is $20 per human and one dog, and $3 extra per human or dog for a maximum of $30. Pay at the door, cash or credit is accepted.

Proof of vaccinations are required before entry: rabies, Bordetella and distemper vaccines must be proven. The event is a fundraiser for P.A.W.S. Hancock; for more visit pawshancock.org or facebook.com/PAWSHancock.

Women’s resource fundraiser coming up

GREENFIELD – Power of the Purse, an event in support of the Women’s Resource Center of Hancock County, is coming up this month.

The event will be at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Bradley Hall, 2 W. Main St., Greenfield. Music and appetizers will be served, with dinner beginning at 6:30 p.m. The theme of the event is “Champion Women for Positive Change.”

Support groups starting up at Wellspring

GREENFIELD – Support groups are coming up through Wellspring Center, starting Aug. 13.

Living Grace is a 15-week faith-based support group for those living with a mental health difficulty or disorder. Family Grace is a group for families and loved ones of those with a mental health difficulty or disorder.

Breaking the Chains of Trauma for Women is a nine-week support group for women with trauma.

Starting Sept. 3 is Life’s Healing Choices for Women, a nine-week study that helps group members overcome and heal from any hurt, habit or hang-up.
