HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man is sitting in the Hancock County Jail under a $20,000 cash bond after officials accused him of multiple crimes stemming from a July 15 incident when he fled police.

Brandon Tyler, 37, 2009 N Mitthoefer Road was charged with a Level 4 felony count of unlawful possession of a firearm by serious violent felon, a Level 5 felony count of unlawful carrying of a handgun – prior felony conviction w/in last 15 years, a Level 6 felony count of resisting law enforcement – uses a vehicle, and two different misdemeanor counts of resisting law enforcement – fled and reckless driving.

Court records show the case against Tyler was opened on July 18 in Hancock County Circuit Court where a senior judge set a $20,000 cash bond and ordered Tyler to appear again for a pretrial conference in mid-September.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials with the McCordsville Police Department were on a routine patrol in the 6900 block of West Broadway when a routine check produced a hit on a vehicle showing a warrant for a woman’s arrest.

The vehicle, police noted, went into the Meijer parking lot and, as police followed and tried to stop the vehicle, the driver took off through the parking lot at a high rate of speed, the affidavit said. The vehicle was eventually stopped on CR North 700W between a tree and trampoline following a chase that went off-road.

The driver, Tyler, fled on foot when his car stopped, the affidavit said. He was eventually caught nearby thanks to witnesses and assisting police units from Fortville and the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, officials said in the report. Officials noted that they found a gun in the vehicle along with a passenger. Tyler, officials noted in the report, told police he ran because he had a warrant out for his arrest for domestic battery charges. Officials also noted in the report that Tyler had a previous conviction for robbery out of Marion County.

The passenger in the case was not charged.
