In 1946, former Greenfield resident Sally Butler was elected president of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs at the organization’s convention in Cleveland, Ohio. Butler was an attorney and deputy manager of the Indiana Community Service of the United States Savings Bond Division.

In 1977, a car-train wreck on the Conrail tracks crossing County Road 600E east of Greenfield resulted in the deaths of two Fountaintown boys, ages 1 and 12.
In 2021, Greenfield native Kyle Gibson represented the Texas Rangers in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game.

In 1925, Englishman John Francis Gillin set out from Greenfield’s Columbia Hotel during a bicycle trip he was making from his home in Cleveland, Ohio, to St. Louis, where he was a member of the St. Louis Cycling Club. He said he often took his summer vacation by bicycle.

In 1935, Paul Lacy opened a grocery store in Fortville. He operated Lacy’s Market, as well as a meat locker he opened in 1945, until his death in 1966.

In 1986, Hancock County officials opened bids on a new two-story, 50,000-square-foot jail to be built at 123 E. Main St. Now the jail is a few miles east of Greenfield on U.S. 40.
