Edwin Arondell Chapman, known to most as “Aron”, passed away at the age of 86 at Legacy at Springhurst in Greenfield. Aron was born on October 22, 1937, in Jamestown, Kentucky to the late E. Wolford Chapman and Effie (Morgan) Chapman. Aron married the love of his life, Judy (Day) Chapman on September 30, 1960. Aron proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961-1967.

Aron spent a 25-year career at Navistar in Indianapolis as a Machine Block Operator until his retirement in 1997. After retirement he found much enjoyment in handy work and even built a few homes for his family. Aron was a member of the Hancock Masonic Lodge F&AM #101 – Greenfield, IN; Greenfield Elks Lodge #1720; and the Greenfield Moose Lodge #997 – where he received his Pilgram degree. He was also a member of the Greenfield Faith Church. Aron enjoyed ministering as a chaplain to those in need at Hancock Regional Hospital and by delivering meals through Meals on Wheels of Hancock County.

Aron is survived by his wife, Judy Chapman of Greenfield; children, Randy Arondell (Debbie) Chapman of Indianapolis; Cindy (Bruce) Whitaker of Bloomington; Brenda Stanley (Paul McWherter) of Tennessee; Carol (John) Turner of Greenfield; grandchildren, Alison Chapman, Mitchell Arondell Chapman, Wendy (J.B.) Shively, Lori (Whitney) Whitaker, Marshall Aron Stanley, Logan Stanley, Kelly (Brian) Ellis, John (Caitlin) Turner; great-grandchildren, Emily Whaley, Khloe Whaley, Addison Shively, Koa Whitaker, Noah Stanley, Dean Ellis, Jack Turner; brothers, Wallace (Pauline) Chapman of Greenfield; Bobby Chapman of Jamestown, KY; Roger (Patty) Chapman of Russell Springs, KY; sisters, Louise Watts of Knightstown; and Judy Foley of Nicholasville, KY. Aron is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Margarett Turner and Emma Hall; brothers, Donald Chapman and Larry Chapman; and great-grandchild: Shine Stanley.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11:00am at the mortuary. Pastor John Wakeman will officiate. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield with military honors rendered.
