Unemployment rate 2.9% in Hancock County

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county’s preliminary unemployment rate for April was 2.9%. That’s down from where it was in March at 3.4% but up from the benchmark of one year ago, which was 2.2% in April 2023, according to information from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development released this week.

Statewide, Indiana’s preliminary jobless rate for April was 3.6%. Nationally, the April unemployment rate was 3.5%.

Howard County had the highest preliminary rate in the state for last month, at 6.1%, while Gibson County had the lowest, at 2.5%. Hancock County’s unemployment rate ranked No. 67 in the state.
