LOVELAND, OHIO, FORMERLY OF GREENFIELD
Jane A. (Collins) Gill-Smithson, age 89 of Loveland, Ohio and formerly of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Loveland Healthcare Center in Loveland, Ohio. She was born May 9, 1934 in Elwood, the daughter of Carl and Martha (Wallace) Collins. Jane was a 1951 graduate of Wendell L. Willkie High School in Elwood. She married C. Edwin Gill on Oct. 2, 1954. They lived in Indianapolis, Cincinnati and later moved to Greenfield in 1969. Jane worked in the Hancock County Clerk’s Office from 1974 to 1977 and then the Heath Department from 1977 until she retired in 1999. After Ed’s passing in 1994, she married Jack Smithson in 2001 and he passed away in 2018. She remained living in Greenfield until Feb. 2021.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Sara (Chris) Leonard of Milford, OH; 5 grandchildren, Ross Leonard, Seth Leonard, and Collin Leonard all of Milford, OH, Katrina Gill and Veronica Beato both of Altamonte Springs, FL; 2 great-grandchildren, Sophia and Giovanni of Altamonte Springs, FL; a sister, Carolyn Smith of Lafayette; and a son. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ed Gill and Jack Smithson; 3 brothers, Ralph Collier, Jack Collins, and William Collins; sister, Rosemary Freeman; and grandson, Caleb Gill.
A private graveside service and burial was held at the Elwood City Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Linden Grove School, 4122 Myrtle Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45236. Linden Grove is a private K-8 school for students on the autism spectrum.
