Vivekananda Bikka, 33, McCordsville
HANCOCK COUNTY — A McCordsville man is facing numerous domestic battery crimes after officials say he strangled, battered and held a county woman against her will in the presence of a small child.
Vivekananda Bikka, 33, 6700 block of Birmingham Avenue, is facing a Level 5 felony count of criminal confinement with bodily injury, two Level 6 felony counts of strangulation, a Level 6 felony count of kidnapping and two Level 6 felony counts of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old from an incident April 14.
Bikka made an initial appearance in Hancock County Court April 16 where the court set a $3,000 cash bond and issued a no contact order. Bikka bonded out late last week.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officials with the McCordsville Police Department were called to a home in the 6700 block of Birmingham Avenue on April 14 with a report that a man identified as Bikka had kicked a woman in the back and put his hands around her neck.
The woman, who officials described as hysterical, was at a neighbors home, the affidavit said. The woman told officials Bikka had choked her and that she did have red marks around her neck. When officials went to the residence where Bikka was located, he came outside officials said and told them there was a 3-year-old child in the house so he couldn’t really talk.
Officials then went back and talked to the victim and noted in the affidavit the victim had bruising on her neck and the right side of her back. She told officials that she had made dinner for Bikka when he became angry walked over to her and shoved the food into her mouth while telling her how bad the food was. The victim told officials she walked away from Bikka and into a bedroom to get away from him.
The affidavit noted that Bikka came into the bedroom and, from behind, threw the victim on the floor, grabbed the woman by her throat with one hand, and placed his other hand over her nose and mouth. The victim told officials she was unable to breath and believed she was going to die. After he stopped strangling her, the victim said Bikka beat her with a closed fist.
The victim told officials that she eventually got away and went into the living room but he started holding her holding legs so tight that it caused pain and was preventing her from leaving. Bikka then went to the front door because the victim was screaming. The victim told officials that when Bikka went to the front door, she attempted to exit the residence out the back door. Bikka, however, grabbed her left arm before she could exit the residence and pulled her back inside.
The affidavit went on to state that when she was back in the house, she asked Bikka for a glass of water, and when he went into the kitchen she ran out of the house to a neighbor who called the police. Officials noted in the report that the 3-year-old child was present during the battering incident.
When officials went back and talked with Bikka, he said he’d done nothing. Officials, however, arrested him and took him to the county jail. Bikka is due back in court in mid-May for a status conference update.
