FORTVILLE — A program Friday, on International Women’s Day, will highlight the journeys of women around the world.

The event at Mercy Road Church Northeast in Fortville will feature speakers Cecile Nyiramana of Rwanda, Ira Venglovska of Ukraine and Rachel Mutai of Kenya, plus musical guest Sarah Scharbrough McLaughlin. Each speaker is part of initiatives in her country that address community needs, including leadership development, helping women in crisis pregnancies, and reaching out to people with disabilities.

Corinne Gunter, associate pastor of the Fortville church, has partnered with each of them through Rise Up Woman, a non-profit she leads. Inviting them here to speak “opens the door for so many more people to have the opportunity to meet them” and learn about a different culture, she said.

The event is free, open to anyone, and is not a fundraiser, Gunter said. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a photo exhibit. The program begins at 7. The church is located at 611 Vitality Drive.
