Arts, rummage sale coming up Feb. 24

GREENFIELD – The annual Arts & Rummage Sale is coming up Feb. 24, raising money for a local organization and providing entertainment throughout the day. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, 620 N. Apple St., Greenfield. Admission is $1; children 12 and under get in free. Booth space is available for $50 by emailing [email protected]. Lunch and snack foods are available for purchase.

Proceeds benefit KidsPlay Inc., a nonprofit children’s theater organization that produces two plays a year.

Strawberry sale to benefit FFA

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Eastern Hancock Future Farmers of America is having a strawberry sale as a fundraiser.

Strawberries are old in two pound, four pound or eight pound containers. Orders are due by Feb. 13; delivery is expected the week of Feb. 26. Follow the link at facebook.com/EasternHancockSchools to order.

Polar Plunge coming up

GREENFIELD – The 2024 Polar Plunge is set for March 1, benefiting Special Olympics of Indiana and Eastern Hancock’s inclusive club.

Eastern Hancock SOAAR, or Something Outstanding About All Royals, is hosting the plunge at Eagle Creek. It is one of several Polar Plunges happening across the state, where friends and family sponsor individuals or groups to jump into the frigid waters of Indiana.

Proceeds benefit Special Olympics and a “Champions Together” banner at Eastern Hancock High School. Donations can be made in the form of a check to Eastern Hancock High School or cash at any office. Learn more or follow the link to support online at facebook.com/EasternHancockSchools.

EH seeks typical peers for preschool

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock is looking for “typical peers” for its preschool program for the 2024-25 school year.

Typical peers serve as role models for students with exceptional needs. Children eligible for the program should possess good speech and language skills, as well as age-appropriate behavior. To have a child evaluated for one of four spots, call 317-936-5444 ext. 405. Preschool students must reside in the Eastern Hancock district.

Family events coming up at libraries

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several family events are coming up at local libraries in Hancock County.

A Year of the Dragon Party is Feb. 7 and Read with Cleo the Opossum event is Feb. 11 at the central branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. In New Palestine, a Valentine craft program for children is Feb. 13 and a Tiny Art Show Workshop is Feb. 21 at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Hedgehog Hannah provides hands-on experiences with animals for all ages Feb. 12 at both branches of the HCPL. Visit hcplibrary.org to register for programs or learn more.

The Fortville Vernon Township Public Library hosts an after-school Lego Club Feb. 7 and 21 at Fortville Elementary School. A STEAM Club for homeschool families is set for Feb. 23 at the VTPL, 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for details.

Children’s gardening programs coming up

CARTHAGE – The Hancock County Master Gardener Association will provide a family event at a neighboring community library.

“Winter Sowing for Kids” is set for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Henry Henley Public Library, 102 N. Main St., Carthage.

A second event is scheduled for the same library, called “Get Your Hands Dirty” to teach children how to plant and care for seedlings April 13.
