INDIANAPOLIS — Conservative Indiana State Representative Mike Speedy, District 90, announced his plans to run for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District on Jan. 9.

Speedy’s press release said that he is a committed community leader who is running to be a voice for common sense and conservative ideas based in both life and liberty.

“Our nation is at a crossroads,” said Speedy in the press release. “We can choose the path of reconciling America to our founding principles, or we can take the tragic path toward destruction by continuing down the road of Marxism that doomed so many in the 20th century. We must once again champion the rights of the individual, rooted in our Constitution’s Bill of Rights.”

Speedy has served as a representative for House District 90 since 2010, representing the southeastern portion of Marion County. Before serving as a representative, Speedy served on the 29-member Indianapolis City Council for almost seven years.

“I feel like I am uniquely positioned to lend a powerful voice for the 6th, in controlling government spending, the growth of federal government, pushing back on socialist-left trends that we see in the federal government,” Speedy said.

Speedy said he brings together many skills, such as being a small business owner, working with the local government and serving at the statehouse for more than a decade.

“It puts me in a spot to hopefully be the most effective of anyone that I’m aware of,” Speedy said.

Speedy said that, with his experience, he knows the process of how an idea becomes a law, crafting the right message and, at the same time, in a way that allows working with other people.

“Define values and build bridges at the same time, and I think that’s what you’ll see if you examine my record,” Speedy said.

As a state representative, Speedy is the chair of the Financial Institutions committee and sits on the Judiciary committee and Roads & Transportation committee.

Speedy is also a real estate investor and has been building and developing properties for the past two decades. Speedy received his undergraduate education at Indiana University School of Business with a B.S. in Finance and went on to earn a law degree at Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. He currently owns and operates a small business in Indianapolis.

Speedy’s press release said that he is also a “champion of free market principles as he knows firsthand the power of free enterprise.”

Speedy said he believes it is important to continue to control government spending, secure the borders and education the people on American history.

“I want to do my part in educating people about our nation’s great history and how important the Constitution was,” Speedy said. “To protect and preserve freedom for future generations. I think we’ve lost that.”

Speedy’s website says that he is a “committed Christian and a firm believer in the founding principles of our nation. He believes free people, not government programs or policies, have made America a prosperous nation, and he dedicates himself to fighting for life and liberty.”

“This is America,” Speedy said. “Where we embrace freedom rather than accept the rise of Marxism, socialism and tyranny. As our next congressman, I will work to dismantle the administrative state so we can restore the promise of American exceptionalism. To protect our national security, I will also fight to complete the wall on our porous southern border, which leaves us vulnerable to criminal cartels and terrorists.”

Speedy and his family reside on the south side of Indianapolis and enjoy sports, flying, the outdoors and traveling. Outside of work, Speedy spends time with his two children and has volunteered as a mentor for the Indianapolis Big Brother Big Sister chapter and EAA’s Young Eagles. He also attends Living Word Bible Church.

”I’m excited this door is open. I wish Greg Pence well, but I’m excited to do this,” Speedy said. “I feel called to do it, I feel prepared to do it, I feel qualified and I’m excited to be the new conservative standard there in the 6th district.”
