Prep roundup: Royals return to winning ways, beat BRV 72-24

Eastern Hancock’s girls basketball team bounced back from their first loss of the season with an impressive 72-24 Mid-Eastern Conference victory over visiting Blue River Valley Wednesday.

Eastern Hancock lost to Class 4A state-ranked Lawrence North in the championship game of last week’s Wildcat Invitational.

With Wednesday’s win, the Royals, No. 2 in Class 2A, are 15-1 and 6-0 in the MEC. Blue River Valley dropped to 8-7 and 2-3.

Freshman guard Kenzie Koch scored 23 points and had seven of the team’s 20 steals. Sammie Bolding scored 17 points.

Ten different players scored. Camryn Andrus added nine points. Kiersten Judd and Sydney Springman each had five points.

Brooklyn Willis had a team-high six rebounds. Springman and Bolding had four assists apiece.

The Royals led 14-5 after one quarter and 37-9 at halftime. They took a 52-16 lead into the fourth quarter.

Eastern Hancock is back in action Saturday, at home, against Union County.

Boys swimming

G-C swimmers win third straight

Greenfield-Central’s boys swimming team won for the third straight time with a 114-61 victory at Greenwood Tuesday.

Event winners included Colten Mayberry (200-yard IM, 100 breaststroke), Aiden Michael (100 freestyle, 100 backstroke), John Grimes (100 butterfly), Gabe Hall (1-meter diving) and Tyler Mullen (500 freestyle).

The Cougars also won the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relays. Michael, Grimes, Isaac Johnson and Mayberry were on both teams.

The team is back in action at the Hoosier Heritage Conference meet on January 13 at the New Palestine Natatorium.
