PENDLETON
Beverly S. Burns, 75, of Pendleton, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Community Hospital Anderson. She was born February 24, 1948, in Shelbyville, IN.
Bev was a 1966 Mt. Vernon High School graduate. She received her associate degree from Marian University, her Bachelor of Science from Ball State and her Masters from Indiana University. Bev was a member of the Fortville Christian Church. She retired as a nurse practitioner from Anderson Family Practice. She worked at Community Hospitals Inc. for 50 years. Bev started the geriatric care unit at CHE and helped develop the charting system used for patient care still in use today throughout the CHI network. She was recognized as “Nurse of the Year” at Community Hospitals in 1983. Bev was the past-president and co-founder of SMADO South Madison Anti-Drug Organization and was very active in 4H, focusing in dog obedience.
Bev is survived by husband Mike Burns, whom she married March 8, 1969; sons Tim (Sandy) Burns of Speedway and Brian (Lori) Burns of Noblesville; daughter Kristi (Dain) Anderson of Fortville; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; brothers Ray (Dewenia) Ellis of Lynn and Robert (Cara) Ellis of Fortville; stepbrother Robert (Debi) Lane of McCordsville; as well as several nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Eugene Ellis in 1974, mother Betty Lou Ellis Lane in October 2023, nephew Joe Ellis in 2001 and step-brother Darrell Lane in 2023.
Friends may call on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at Fortville Christian Church, 9450 North 200 West, from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. A funeral to celebrate Bev’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 18, 2023, with calling for 1 hour prior, at the church with committal services immediately following at Gravel Lawn Cemetery, Fortville.
