James “Jim” Edward Grande, age 95, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at his home. He was born in Indianapolis on August 2, 1928 to John L. Grande and Margaret (McNamara) Grande. After the deaths of his parents during his early childhood, he and his brothers were raised by his Aunt Clara (Grande) Aulbach Maloney. He attended Cathedral High School and graduated from St. Meinrad Seminary in 1950. During the Korean War, he served as a Second-Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy. On February 9, 1952 Jim married Mary Anne Noone at Assumption Catholic Church in Indianapolis.

Before retiring in 1996, he worked as an insurance agent for 28 years at Carson, Cannavan and Grande Insurance Agency in Bridgeport, Indiana. After his retirement, he was employed for 10 years at Little Sisters of the Poor St Augustine Home in Indianapolis. Jim was a faithful, lifelong Catholic and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the American Legion Post #119 in Greenfield.

He is survived by his children, Thomas Joseph (Arlene) Grande of Carmel, David Vincent (Joni) Grande of Indianapolis, Rosemarie (Donald W.,deceased) Kottlowski of New Palestine, Bernadette (Larry) Von Essen of Greenfield, and Maureen Grande of Indianapolis; grandchildren Jackie, Mike, Brian, Laura, Ben, David, Kevin, Matt, Jill, Tommy, Vanessa, Tony and Joseph and 23 great grandchildren. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Margaret; his Aunt Clara Maloney; his wife of 62 years, Mary Anne (Noone) Grande; brothers, John L. Grande and Robert J. Grande; and son-in-law Donald W. Kottlowski.

Services will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Boulevard, Greenfield, Indiana. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 1:00 pm with Father Aaron Jenkins officiating. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis. Arrangements are being handled by Erlewein Mortuary and Crematory in Greenfield.
