HANCOCK COUNTY — An area man facing multiple drug charges had his case closed recently in Hancock County Superior Court 1 with the acceptance of a plea deal.

Gage Conner Lemay, 28, 1400 block of Evergreen Drive, Greenfield, was facing a Level 4 felony count of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony count of obstruction of justice, a Level 6 felony count of possession of a narcotic drug as well as three different misdemeanor drug charges from an incident in August of 2022.

According to court records, all but the most serious charge, the Level 4 felony, was officially dismissed Dec. 6. Lemay was sentenced to nine years in the Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) with four years to be executed and five years suspended to probation. As part of the plea deal, after Lemay has served at least 18 months in the IDOC he may participate in the Recovery While Incarcerated (RWI) program. After completion of the RWI, Lemay may petition the court for a possible modification to be a part of the county’s Behavioral or Drug Court programs.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Lemay was originally arrested in August of 2022 when officers pulled him over after someone alerted them a driver of a vehicle was under the influence.

After officials pulled Lemay over, he denied the officer’s request to check the car for drugs, so the officers got a K-9 involved. The K-9 did a walk around the vehicle and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, the report stated.

Officials found a box inside a backpack owned by Lemay containing a translucent, rock-like substance (11.4 grams) which field-tested positive for methamphetamine, the report stated. Officials also found marijuana and a bag with a white powdery substance that field-tested for heroin, as well as other drugs inside a pill bottle.

According to court records, Lemay has a lengthy criminal record and is also facing a Level 4 felony possession of methamphetamine charge in Monroe County Circuit Court 3 from an incident there in February of 2023. Records from that case show Lemay filed a motion for a speedy trial in early December.
