“Letters to Santa” programs available

GREENFIELD – Opportunities are available for local children to send their wishlists to Santa.

Write a letter to Santa and drop it in the mailbox at town hall in McCordsville; or the Patricia Elmore Center or Depot Street Park in Greenfield. Include a stamped envelope with a return address by Dec. 18 for a surprise.

Financial aid meetings coming in new year

HANCOCK COUNTY – Support for graduating high school students and adult learners will be available in upcoming workshops about financial aid for higher education.

FAFSA Days will be in January at local high schools and in March at the Hancock County Public Library.

The Community Foundation of Hancock County announced the events along with INvestED and Hancock County LINK. A FAFSA event is scheduled for 2:30-6:30 p.m. Jan. 9 at Greenfield-Central High School; 2:30-7 p.m. Jan. 17 at Mt. Vernon High School; 4-7 p.m. Jan. 23 at Eastern Hancock High School; and 2:30-7 p.m. Jan. 30 at New Palestine High School. There will also be an event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 2 at the main branch of the HCPL in Greenfield.

“Christmastide” features three musical groups

GREENFIELD – Join holiday festivities with three local musical ensembles.

Christmastide Concert is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts, 122 W. Main St., Greenfield. The Brandywine Wind Concert Band, Brandywine Jazz Band and Greenfield Orchestra will perform; admission is free, donations are accepted.

Calendars a fundraiser for history group

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Historical Society has 2024 calendars available, featuring “rare and carefully colorized pictures from Hancock County and our artifact collections.”

The calendars are available as a fundraiser for the group. Cost is $20 at the Hancock Health gift shop, located in the main lobby of Hancock Regional Hospital, 801 N. State St., Greenfield. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Calendars can be shipped for $22; all shipping orders must be paid in advance. Call 317-403-3988 for shipping orders or more information.

The Hancock County Historical Society is a nonprofit organization that collects, preserves and interprets the history of the county. This year’s calendar commemorates the 60th anniversary of the society.

HCPL to host holiday jazz concert

GREENFIELD – Free jazz concert “Holiday Time in the City” is coming up at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 18 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

The concert will feature a performance by Dorian “Hurricane” Phelps, an Indianapolis jazz drummer, as well as Allison Victoria, a singer, songwriter, emcee and self-taught musician from Indianapolis. Register at hcplibrary.org.
