Greenfield-Central’s boys wrestling team won seven of 14 matches at Franklin Central Thursday, but was able to grab some extra points with a pair of forfeits, a fall and a couple of wins by major decision to defeat the Flashes 32-28.
Clay Guenin won by fall at 190. Silas Frye (175) and Tristen Lanum (215) each won by major decision.
Frye won his match 15-2. Lanum was victorious by a 12-1 count.
Mason Thompson picked up a 7-1 decision at 165. Nathan Miller won 6-1 at 144 and Hayden Tomey (106) and Braeden Ayres (113) won by forfeit.
Eastern Hancock wins dual over M-G
Eastern Hancock’s boys wrestling team won eight of 11 matches wrestled and earned a 54-19 dual victory over visiting Madison-Grant Wednesday.
Of the eight wins, six were by fall.
Chayse Mix (113), Bradyn Volz (120), Zane Badgley (126), Hayden Jackson (138), Dom Shelby (165) and Joe Hollenbaugh (285) all won by pins.
Cameron Volz (132) and Kolton Gilbreath (150) were victorious by decision. Jackson Cook (106) and Hunter Survant (144) won by forfeit.
The Royals forfeited at 195. EH’s Taylor Conley (157) and Wyatt Walker (175) lost by decision and Christian Whisman (215) lost by fall.
Eastern Hancock wrestles at the New Palestine Invitational Saturday along with the hosts, Triton Central and Bishop Chatard.
Swimming
New Pal teams sweep Perry
New Palestine’s boys and girls swimming and diving teams picked up a pair of wins over Perry Meridian at the New Palestine Natatorium Thursday.
The boys team won 101-84. The girls won 109-76
The New Pal boys swept the relay races.
Reese Cox, Blake Hurst, James Watson and Liam Fuller won the 2oo-yard medley relay (1:47.98). Ashton Turner, Dontae Thompson, Fuller and Dawson Lynch won the 200 freestyle relay (1:35.44) and Lynch, Watson, Turner and Thompson won the 400 freestyle relay (3:37.05).
Individually, the Dragons picked up wins from Jake Myers in the 200 IM (2:17.99), Watson in the 500 freestyle (5:30.44) and Aidan Kingery in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.96).
The New Pal girls swept relays, too.
Rachel Hamilton, Lillie Abernathy, Chloe Siler and Emma Snyder won the 200 medley relay (2:03.01). Siler, Abernathy, Sullie Leavell and Adrianna Huston won the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.46) and Leavell, Cadyn Brown, Hamilton and Huston won the 400 freestyle relay (4:10.11).
Abernathy added a pair of wins in the 200 IM (2:33.06) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.83). Leavell won the 50 freestyle (25.99 seconds). Siler took the top spot in the 100 butterfly (1:07.90) and Huston added a victory in the 500 freestyle (6:00.82).
The teams are in action Tuesday at Mt. Vernon.
Mt. Vernon swimmers piling up wins
Mt. Vernon’s boys and girls swimming and diving teams have been busy, and victorious.
Swimming four dual meets since Saturday, the boys team went 4-0 and the girls went 3-1.
On Saturday at Connersville, the girls team won 85-62 and the boys won 100-43.
On Tuesday at Warren Central, the girls were victorious by a 122-50 count. The boys came out on top with a 107-38 victory.
On Thursday, at home, the boys squad beat Guerin Catholic 88-78 and Delta 97-79. The girls defeated Guerin 115-66 and lost to Delta 109-75.
The Marauders welcome New Palestine Tuesday.

MV defeated at Connersville
Mt. Vernon’s girls basketball team was defeated 48-43 at Connersville Thursday.
Mt. Vernon (3-5) opens defense of its Hoosier Heritage Conference championship Saturday with a home game against Pendleton Heights (6-1, 3-0).
