Cumberland’s annual German holiday festival, Weihnachtsmarkt, features carriage rides, traditional food and beer and live entertainment. It’s scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 2.

Cumberland holiday festival this weekend

CUMBERLAND – Cumberland’s 12th annual Weihnachtsmarkt, the German word for Winter Market, is coming up from noon to 7 p.m. December 2. The festival pays homage to the town’s early German settlers. The free family-friendly event includes artisan vendors, traditional food and beer, live entertainment, kids activities, carriage rides, visits from Santa from noon to 5 p.m. and a tree lighting at 6 p.m. the entertainment lineup includes Oompapa’s Tuba Quartet, Fort Wayne Tanzer, Heidi and The Melchior Marionettes, Indiana Ballet Conservatory, Indianapolis Liederkranz and Hancock County Children’s Choir. The tree lighting will include fireworks and festival musical performance by Sadie Johnson.

Talent show to support new peace project

GREENFIELD – Rotary Club of Greenfield will host “Rotary’s Got Talent,” a free family-friendly event at 4 p.m. Dec. 10.

The event, at the historic H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts in downtown Greenfield, aims to gather the community for an evening of entertainment and support towards the creation of Greenfield’s upcoming Rotary Peace Park and the city’s first official Peace Pole, an internationally-recognized symbol for peace and unity.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will have a meet-and-greet at 4 p.m. and the show begins at 5 p.m. and will include vocalists, duets, and a magical display by talented artists within the community. Fire territory to host holiday open house

GREENFIELD – The local fire department is hosting a Christmas event Dec. 2.

Greenfield Fire Territory Holiday Open House will be 3-5:30 p.m. Dec. 2 at 17 W. South St., Greenfield. Meet Santa, decorate cookies, drink hot chocolate and learn fire prevention tips for the holidays. A donation box for Toys for Tots will be on site.

Blood drives coming up

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several mobile blood drives are coming up soon in Hancock County.

Blood drives are set Dec. 5 at Realife Church in Greenfield, Dec. 9 at Koenig Equipment in Greenfield and Dec. 9 at both branches of the Hancock County Public Library in Greenfield and New Palestine.

Riley Home holiday event Dec. 10

GREENFIELD – Christmas at the Riley Home Open House is coming up from 5-7 p.m. Dec. 10.
