Phyllis Ann (Thompson) Ray, 86, of Shirley, passed away peacefully, October 5, 2023, at Rawlins House in Pendleton, Indiana. She was born on October 27, 1936 in Anderson, Indiana to Kenneth A. and Margaret (Raison) Thompson. She married Byron Keith Ray on October 6, 1951 and they settled in Wilkinson, Indiana where they raised their four children.

She worked for a short while at Ward Stilson Co. in Anderson, IN and then also at Danner’s in Knightstown, IN while Byron was in the Army. She was a faithful member of the Wilkinson Church of Christ and the Joyful Saints, Rambling Roses Red Hat’s and Waynette Home Economics Club. Phyllis was dedicated to giving her best to her husband and family every day. She enjoyed hand-quilting, gifting each family member with a special quilt she made for them. She appreciated learning about the family before her also, as she studied genealogy. When she wasn’t filling her family’s bellies with feasts and lasagna, she tended her beautiful flower gardens. But her ultimate pride and joy was her grandchildren.

Phyllis is survived by her sister, Mary (Larry) Grimes; brother, Michael (Debbie) Thompson; son, Rick A. (Nichola) Ray; daughters, Sheryl Ray, Penny Ray, and Ginger (Scott) Atkins. Grandchildren, Eli (Shiloh) Ray, Jordan Ryan, Seth (Sara) Ray, Alexis Atkins (Nathan Brophy), Irina Ray (Ben Elza); Great-grandchildren, Brelle Ray, Sophia Ryan, Charlotte Ryan, Dallas Ray, Roman Elza. Sister-in-law, Angela Thompson and brother-in-law Chuck Sigler.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Byron; brothers, Kenneth Thompson and John Thompson; sisters, Frances Wheeldon and Karen Sigler; brother-in-law, Thomas Ray and sister-in-law, Patricia Ray.

Visitation will be Sunday October 15, 2023 from 2pm-6pm at Condo &St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, 130 S. Main St., Wilkinson, IN. Services will be held Monday October 16, 2023 at 10am at the Wilkinson Church of God, 7293 IN-109, Wilkinson, IN, with Mr. Ken Delbridge officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at McCray Cemetery, Wilkinson, IN.
