Joyce Ilene Harvey Lynam Newkirk, 92, went home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2023, at her home in New Palestine. She was born on July 20, 1931, in Jackson County, Indiana to Everett and Beulah Harvey. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of New Palestine High School, and she served as the office manager for F&M Oil Company for over 25 years until her retirement. She was married to Charles Lynam Jr. on November 30, 1950, until his death in 1970. She then married Paul Newkirk on April 19, 1975, at Carrollton United Methodist Church in Finley, and they spent 48 happy years together.

As a woman of faith, Joyce loved the Lord, her family, and her church, Buck Creek Baptist Church. She was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who had the privilege of meeting her. Throughout her life, Joyce enjoyed creating beautiful works with her hands through sewing, crafting, baking, and gardening. She had a deep affection for all God’s creatures, and many pets held a special place in her heart over the years.

Joyce is survived by her beloved husband, Rev. Paul Newkirk of New Palestine; daughters, Sharon Marie Lynam of Indianapolis; Janis Lynam of Indianapolis; Diane Hoskins of Wilkinson; Sharon Lyn Crump of New Palestine; Kelley (Todd) Werner of Carmel; and Paula Miller of Muncie; sister, Joanne (Richard) Young of Indianapolis; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Blanche James, her first husband Charles Lynam Jr., her son Joseph Lynam, her stepson Paul Douglas Newkirk, and her son-in-law Larry Crump Jr.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary &Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Randy Stone officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at McCray Cemetery in Wilkinson, Indiana. An additional celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Cumberland United Methodist Church, 219 N. Muessing St, Cumberland, IN 46229.
