Fall break art camp set

GREENFIELD – Registration is open now for a fall break art camp for children in grades kindergarten through sixth.

Fall Break Art Mini Camp will be from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 17-19 at the Greenfield Parks and Recreation Art Studio, located in the lower level of the Patricia Elmore Center, 280 N. Apple St., Greenfield.

Students will use an array of materials including paint, clay, glue, chalk, foil and plaster strips. Cost is $55 for residents, $60 for non-residents of the city of Greenfield. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org. For questions, call 317-477-4340 or email [email protected].

Local libraries offer programs for children

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several events for children and teens are coming up in the month of October at local libraries.

Preschool children ages 4-5 can take part in a Little Artists group Oct. 3 at the Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library in New Palestine. Children in grades 1-5 can make haunted house crafts at the Greenfield HCPL Oct. 11. A pajama party with nighttime stories will be in New Palestine Oct. 11.

Teens are invited to a National Pizza Month celebration Oct. 5 at the Greenfield branch or a pizza party Oct. 3 in New Palestine. There are also teen book clubs and writing clubs available.

Events for all ages include Kasey the Fire Dog in both New Palestine and Greenfield Oct. 12; and pumpkin decorating Oct. 10 in New Palestine or Oct. 16 in Greenfield. Visit hcplibrary.org for details or to sign up.

At the Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville, Bentley’s Buddies dogs will be available to read to Oct. 21. There is a Play & Learn Storytime for all ages each Wednesday morning, as well as a Homeschool STEAM Club Oct. 27 and Bookworms Middle Grade Book Club Oct. 23. “Literary Painted Pumpkins” is Oct. 3 with character options like Pete the Cat, Scooby Doo or Harry Potter to paint; all materials and the pumpkin will be provided by the VTPL. New Cumberland Halloween event slated

CUMBERLAND – A new event hosted by the Cumberland Police Department will replace the community’s Monster Dash this year. Cumberland Trail & Treat is set for 3-5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Lions Park along the Buck Creek Trail Loop.

Admission is free for trick-or-treaters and four-legged friends to wander along the Buck Creek Trail adorned with decorations and treat spots hosted by local businesses and organizations.
