New Palestine’s boys tennis team picked up a 4-1 win at New Castle Wednesday.

The Dragons swept three singles matches and split doubles competitions.

At No. 1 singles, Moses Haynes won 6-2, 6-0. Arjomand Khokhar, at No. 2, was victorious by a count of 7-6 (3), 6-0.

No. 3 singles player Brady Torzewski remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win.

In doubles action, the No. 2 group of Eli Sloan and Tyler Wilson won 6-7 (1), 6-3, 7-6 (3).

At No. 1 doubles, Max Havel and Joey McPike lost 7-6, 7-5.

New Palestine is 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. The Dragons host Triton Central Thursday.

Cougars get 5-0 sweep

Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team improved to 12-2 overall and 5-1 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference with a 5-0 victory at Pendleton Heights Wednesday.

The team will host Alexandria on Thursday.

Girls soccer

Marauders lose to Center Grove

The Class 3A 20th-ranked Mt. Vernon’s girls soccer team dropped to 7-4 on the season with a 3-2 loss to visiting Center Grove Wednesday.

Kylie Brandes had both Mt. Vernon goals, one in each half. All three Center Grove tallies came in the second half.

Mt. Vernon travels to Class 2A No. 14 Batesville Monday.

Volleyball

Dragons beat Falcons in 4

New Palestine’s volleyball team defeated Perry Meridian 3-1 Wednesday at New Palestine High School.

The Dragons won by set scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-14, 25-18.

The Dragons were led by Azure Flagle with 20 digs and 10 service aces. Bella Brownfield had 17 kills and Natalie Sevier added 15.

Kyndra Monteith had 12 digs and setter Sam Gooding contributed 42 assists.

New Palestine (14-2, 1-1) travels to Pendleton Heights (15-8, 1-2) Thursday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference matchup.

Eastern Hancock wins MEC match

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team earned a Mid-Eastern Conference sweep over visiting Randolph Southern Monday.

The Royals won by set scores of 25-6, 25-13, 25-9.

Eastern Hancock is 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the MEC. The Royals have a non-conference game Thursday, at home, against Southwestern.

Boys cross country

Royals win New Castle Invitational

The Eastern Hancock boys cross country team, for the third time this season, won an invitational.

There were five teams in Tuesday’s meet at New Castle’s Memorial Park. Eastern Hancock scored 35 points. Rushville was second with 40 points.

Eastern Hancock’s Preston Markley was the individual champion with a 5K time of 17:38. He was followed by teammates Brandon Metz at 18:04 and John Henry Gray at 18:15. Andrew Metz was 13th at 20:04 and Caden Powers 17th at 20:33.

Eastern Hancock hosts an invitational Saturday.

Girls cross country

Johnson fifth at NC Invite

Eastern Hancock’s Sydney Johnson was fifth (23:14) and Kaylee Swan was 13th (25:28.7) at Tuesday’s New Castle Invitational at Memorial Park.

The Royals did not have enough participants for a team score. New Castle won the team competition led by individual champion Anyah Amman (21:33.1).

Eastern Hancock hosts an invitational Saturday.
