Dodgeball fundraiser this Saturday

GREENFIELD – The annual Great Futures Dodgeball Tournament is coming up this Saturday, Sept. 9.

The event benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hancock County and will be at the club, 715 E. Lincoln St., Greenfield starting at 10 a.m.

Cost is $25 per individual or $150 for a team of six to play. Prizes will go to the best-dressed teams and overall winner of the tournament. Visit bgchc.com or call 317-462-2404 for more.

Fall plant sale coming up

GREENFIELD – Hancock County Master Gardeners is planning its fall plant sale this weekend.

The event will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 8; and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds 4-H Show Arena, 620 N. Apple St., Greenfield. The event will include perennials and fall annual for sale, live demonstrations and master gardeners on site to answer questions.

Libraries to host book clubs, events for adults

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries will host several events for adults in September.

Vinyasa (“Flow”) Yoga is each Saturday morning at the Sugar Creek branch of the Hancock County Public Library.

Ladies in Read Book Club will be Sept. 6 in HCPL’s Greenfield site with a discussion of “Mexican Gothic.”

Genealogy Open Research is Sept. 11 in Greenfield.

A Brown Bag Book Discussion is Sept. in Greenfield 12 with “The Nature of Fragile Things.”

Adult Crafternoon Club is Sept. 19 in Greenfield.

On Sept. 21 there will be two events at the Greenfield site: a human trafficking lecture and a Writers Helping Writers meeting.

The Greenfield library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. The Sugar Creek branch is at 5731 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine. Events are free; to learn more or register, visit hcplibrary.org.

The Vernon Township Public Library in Fortville will continue its Tuesday Morning Club at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday in September. The senior social hour includes coffee, conversation and rotating activities. Visit vtpl.lib.in.us for details; the library is located at 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville.

English classes available for adults

FORTVILLE – Free Adult English classes will be available at Mt. Vernon Middle School this fall starting Sept. 5.

The classes are sponsored by the Vernon Township Public Library, Community Foundation of Hancock County and Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation. There is a literacy class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m., and a conversation class at 7 p.m. Wednesdays. For more information, visit vtpl.lib.in.us/events.

Tote prizes for library card sign-up month

HANCOCK COUNTY – The Hancock County Public Library will be giving away free reusable library tote bags during the month of September in recognition of Library Card Sign-up Month.

Signing up for a card is free and easy. Simply bring proof of address and a valid ID to either library location.

Patrons can pick up their free reusable tote bags by visiting the Information Desk of either library location in Greenfield or New Palestine and showing their library card (or signing up for a new card). They will be available throughout September while supplies last.
