New Palestine’s volleyball team improved to 3-0 with its third straight 3-0 sweep.

On Thursday, the Dragons defeated host Guerin Catholic 25-11, 25-16, 25-15.

Natalie Sevier led a balanced attack with a team-best nine kills. Hayden Ramsey finished with eight. Bella Brownfield had six, Nyla Lewis recorded five, and Rachel Burke and Sam Gooding had three and two, respectively.

Burke and Makaeli Johnson each had three service aces.

Setter Gooding had 30 assists.

On defense, Ramsey led blockers with four. Burke and Gooding each had three and Brownfield had two.

Azure Flagle recorded 12 digs. Kyndra Monteith had 10. Johnson totaled six and Brownfield had five.

Bella Brownfield had five digs.

At the Southport Invitational today, the Dragons will play host to Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian (2-0) at 10 a.m.

Volleyball

Royals win third straight

Eastern Hancock won its third straight volleyball match, picking up a 3-1 victory over host Cambridge City Lincoln (1-1) Thursday.

The Royals (3-2) won by set scores of 25-23, 29-31, 25-13, 25-17.

Junior middle hitter Ellie Meyer had a team-best 15 kills. Hayden Collins had three of the team’s eight service aces and was part of a team-best four blocks.

The Royals had five players reach double figures in digs, led by Alana Eastridge with 26. Kaitlyn Lowes and Brooklyn Willis each had 17. Collins had 11 and Briar VanCamp tallied 10. The team had 93.

Setters VanCamp and Carlyn Blue had 21 and 11 assists, respectively.

Eastern Hancock is in action today opening with a 9 a.m. match at the Shenandoah Invitational.

Marauders sweep HC

Mt. Vernon won by set scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-23 against visiting Heritage Christian Thursday in a 3-0 victory to even its volleyball record to 2-2. Heritage Christian fell to 1-1.

For the Marauders, Easton Wampler led the attack with nine kills. Kate Ferguson and Sierra Holverson had three service aces each. Aubry Dowling had a team-best nine digs. Setter Ava Whitmore recorded 29 assists.

The Marauders and Eagles will meet again today at 9 a.m. as part of the Western Boone Invitational. Mt. Vernon will also have matches against Western Boone (10 a.m.) and Hamilton Heights (12 p.m.).

Girls soccer

Marauders beat No. 16 Tipton

Mt. Vernon’s girls soccer team picked up its first win of the season with a 4-0 triumph over visiting Tipton (1-2) Thursday.

The Blue Devils came in ranked No. 16 in the Class 1A Indiana Soccer Coaches Association poll.

Kylie Brandes had a pair of goals and Hannah Monroe had a goal and an assist in the victory.

Esther Isger also scored and Aya Renforth and Taylor Bastin both had assists.

Mt. Vernon (1-1) is back in action today, hosting Franklin (0-1-1) at 10 a.m.

Dragons win at Ben Davis

Nevaeh Gebhart had a hat-trick (three goals) and Rylee Hurst scored twice to lead New Palestine (2-0) to a 6-1 girls soccer match win at Ben Davis Thursday.

Tylar Whitaker had the other goal and dished out two assists. Abby Lambdin, Vivian Miller and Hurst also had assists.

The New Palestine defense held the Giants to two shots on goal.

The Dragons are back in action today at 10 a.m., on the road, against Lawrence North (0-1-1).

Boys soccer

Houser hat-trick leads MV

Sophomore Shawn Houser scored three goals to lead Mt. Vernon (2-1) to a 5-1 boys soccer victory at Warren Central (0-2) Thursday.

Charlie Cole and Nate Bennett added goals.

Cole had a pair of assists and Bennett had one. The Marauders led 4-1 at halftime.

The Marauders defense was led by Carson O’Farrell, Brock Austel, Brady Webber, and Rylan Vinard.

Goalkeeper Will Keppler had seven saves. Jayden Etherington had two saves.

Mt. Vernon opens Hoosier Heritage Conference play today against New Castle (1-1, 0-0).

Boys tennis

Royals record another sweep

Eastern Hancock’s boys tennis team improved to 2-0 with a 5-0 sweep of visiting Southwestern Friday.

Luke Zeilinga, Luke Fletcher and Josiah Swauger each picked up victories in singles.

The doubles teams of Myles Wennen/Luke Schilling and Bo Dixon/Garrett Bridges were also victorious.

Defending champions, Eastern Hancock will host the Mid-Eastern Conference tournament Saturday, Aug. 26.
