Library to host programs for children
GREENFIELD – Several programs are coming up for children at the Hancock County Public Library.
A Lego Free Build event will be Aug. 10 at the main branch; “Something Fishy” is Aug. 22 in New Palestine with fish crafts and snacks; A chemistry program with experiments is Aug. 23 in Greenfield; and a “Back to Hogwarts” event is set for Aug. 28 with Harry Potter-themed games and crafts. Bentley’s Buddies reading dogs will be at the Sugar Creek branch in New Palestine at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27.
Game-themed art coming to parks studio
GREENFIELD – Art projects inspired by kids’ favorite video games will be created in a program at Greenfield Parks and Recreation Art Studio.
“Gamer Life” will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 9, 16 and 23. Pre-registration is required at parks.greenfieldin.org.The class is for children in grades kindergarten through sixth. Run, cornhole tournament to benefit Boys and Girls Club
GREENFIELD – The Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County will host two events on the same day in August to raise money for the organization.
The Great Futures Run and Walk 5K begins at 8 a.m. Aug. 12, while the second annual Cornhole Classic begins at noon Aug. 12.
Early bird registration for the 5K is $40, while participant registration is $50. Sponsorship levels start at $100.
The cornhole tournament has an 11 a.m check-in time and participation is $50 for a two-person team in advance or $60 at the door.

Brave Books story hour coming up
GREENFIELD – A Brave Books story hour is coming up in Greenfield.
Jacqueline Dye is hosting the event from noon to 2 p.m. Aug. 5 at the main branch of the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. The event is independent of the library; Brave Books is a movement initiated by Kirk Cameron to hold story hours across the country to teach children through faith-based books.
