Hops 4 Hope set for Aug. 12
GREENFIELD – A craft beer tasting event benefiting the Hope House homeless shelter is coming up.
The 10th annual Hops 4 Hope is 2:30-7 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Hancock County 4-H Fairgrounds, 620 N. Apple St., Greenfield. The event will feature live music from Stella Luna and the Satellites.
VIP admission opens at 2:30 p.m. while general admission opens at 4 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $85; participants must be at least 21 years old to attend. Visit hops4hope.com for tickets.
Motorcycle ride to benefit animal group
FORTVILLE – A benefit ride for Almost Heaven Farm Animal Sanctuary is coming up this Saturday, Aug. 5.
The ride begins at the Fortville VFW, 206 S. Main St., Fortville, and ends at Woody’s Bar and Grill, 737 Main St., Lapel. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. with kickstands up at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $15 per bike, plus $5 per passenger; breakfast is provided. Nature camp gets grant for music
GREENFIELD – The Community Foundation recently made a grant of $1,200 to Nameless Creek Camp to provide new music programming for its Plug Into Nature Camp. Each camper got the chance to play an instrument while exploring creativity and using their imagination through play. The grant also allowed an electric violinist to give a tutorial, and also added a lead counselor position to the program.
The grant was made through the Hancock County Enrichment Fund, a comprehensive, unrestricted fund that addresses a broad range of needs, including future needs that cannot be anticipated at the time a gift is made. The enrichment fund helps support long-term solutions and respond quickly to emergencies, meeting the changing social, cultural, educational and environmental needs of the local community. Book sale coming to HCPL
GREENFIELD – The Friends of the Hancock County Public Library will host a gently used book sale Aug. 17–21 in the library’s GBC Community Room in Greenfield. The Friends also offer audiobooks, DVDs, CDs and video games. Proceeds from the sale fund free concerts and children’s special events at the library.
Friends members may shop their members-only preview sale from 6-7:45 p.m. Aug. 17. Walk-ins can join the non-profit organization at a cost of $15 and shop the preview that night. Pick up a membership form on the Friends’ shelves near the entrance at either library building.
The sale opens to the public from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 19; and 1-3:30 p.m. Aug. 20. Most hardbacks cost $1, and paperbacks cost 50 cents. Children’s books are 50 cents and 25 cents. DVDs, CDs, video games and audiobooks are $1. Bargain day is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 21. A standard paper grocery bag full of books sells for $3, a plastic grocery bag for $2.
