MV school board receives “exemplary” award
FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon school board recently received the Exemplary Governance Award from the Indiana School Board Association.
They received the award at the “commendable level,” which is granted to school boards that have a majority of board members with “commendable” individual status. The status is based on points by attending ISBA events and activities and demonstrating outstanding commitment to improvement to professional learning, according to a press release from Mt. Vernon schools.
Free food available for children this summer
GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central Schools will once again have free meals available to all children 18 and younger this summer. Students do not have to attend G-C schools in order to receive free food.
Breakfast offered daily at Greenfield-Central High School and Greenfield Central Junior High School includes Pop Tarts, cereal, cereal bars, juice and milk; meals will be each weekday in June and July from 730-8:45 a.m.
Lunch will include an alternating menu each weekday in June and July at the high school, junior high and the concession stand at the Kathy Dowling Aquatic Center at Riley Park. The concession stand site will be open 10:45-11:45 a.m. daily; the junior high is 11 a.m. to noon, and the high school is 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Local student named to dean’s list
MCCORDSVILLE – Elijah Thomas of McCordsville was among students honored on Alma College’s winter 2023 Dean’s List. To obtain the honor, students must achieve a 3.5 or better grade point average while carrying a minimum of 13 credits. Alma College is located in Alma, Mich.
Local students honored by Franklin College
HANCOCK COUNTY – Students with local ties were recently honored by Franklin College for exceptional scholarly efforts during the 2022-2023 academic year at the Spring Honor Convocation April 27.
Jocelyn Duncan of Wilkinson received the Gladys Pitcher Greer Memorial Endowed Award in Education.
Bennett L.S. Hanson of New Palestine received the Fields-Borgerding Prize for Excellence in Data Science.
Lillian Benefiel of Morristown received the Student Leadership Endorsement Award.
Franklin College is a residential liberal arts and sciences institution located 20 minutes south of Indianapolis.
Hall of Fame inductees announced
GREENFIELD – The Greenfield Central School Foundation recently announced its 2023 Hall of Fame inductees.
Eugene Chio, class of 1997; Kyle Gibson, class of 2006; Michael O’Connor, class of 1982; and Richard Silcox, class of 1993 will be honored at the Red Letter Gala Sept. 30.
