GREENFIELD
John W. Hill, 83, of Greenfield, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. John was born the son of Swante &Margaret (Rappe) Hill on July 17, 1939, in Highbridge, Wisconsin. John graduated from Mellen High School in 1957.
John spent 43 years of his career working for CSX as a train dispatcher until retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Elks and Moose Lodge for many years. John loved many things, but he especially loved anything that had to do with farming and trains. He often enjoyed refurbishing old antique tractors, watching the RFD channel and other railroad shows.
John is survived by his wife, Janet Hill; son, Dennis (Lorena) Hill; brother, Paul (Maggie) Hill; sisters, Phyllis Lampson; Charlotte (Gerald) Croes; Aleta (John) Olson; granddaughter, Ashley Hill; stepchildren, Eric (Robin) Jeffries; Kristi Anderson; step-grandchildren, Makaylah (Nathaniel) Harrah; Briyonna Godbey; Trevor Godbey and several nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his parents mentioned above, and brother, Jim Hill.
The family will hold a private memorial service to honor John’s life. His ashes will be interred at Mount Hope Cemetery in Highbridge, Wisconsin.
