Library to host book sale fundraiser

GREENFIELD – The Friends of the Hancock County Public Library will have a gently-used book sale from May 11–15 (excluding Sunday) in the library’s GBC Community Room in Greenfield. The Friends also offer audiobooks, DVDs, CDs, and video games. Proceeds from the sale fund free concerts and children’s special events at the library.

Members of the Friends may shop their members-only sale from 6-7:45 p.m. May 11; walk-ins can join the non-profit organization at a cost of $15 and shop the preview that night. Pick up a membership form on the Friends’ shelves near the entrance at either library building.

The sale opens to the public from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 12; 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 13. The library will be closed May 14 for Mother’s Day. Most hardbacks cost $1, and paperbacks cost 50 cents. Children’s books are 50 cents and 25 cents. DVDs, CDs, video games, and audiobooks are $1.

Bargain day is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 15. A standard paper grocery bag full of books sells for $3, a plastic grocery bag for $2.

The library is at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

Purse bingo fundraiser tickets available

GREENFIELD – A designer purse fundraiser benefiting Meals on Wheels of Hancock County is coming up June 1.

Summer of Love Designer Purse Bingo will be at St. Michael’s Church and School, 519 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. Tickets go on sale online at noon May 1 at mealsonwheelsonline.org/designer-purse-bingo. The $40 ticket includes 15 bingo rounds, dinner and raffle. Event features a purse pull, pull tabs, 50/50, raffles and more. Participants must be at least 21 years old; call 317-477-4345 for questions.

Genealogy research event coming up

GREENFIELD – Research your ancestors in a computer lab with other genealogy enthusiasts in an upcoming event at the Hancock County Public Library.

Genealogy Open Research is 6-7:30 p.m. May 8 at the main branch, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. Participants will learn about the library’s free Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest databases, which hold billions of records including census and vital resources.
