New dancing fundraiser benefits local schools

GREENFIELD – A new line dancing fundraiser is planned for February, with proceeds benefiting all of Hancock County’s public school corporations.

The inaugural Hancock County Boot Scootin’ Boogie is planned for 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield.

The $40 ticket includes a hog roast BBQ dinner and free lessons from line dancing instructor Jeff Smilko. The event will include dancing with 915 Kid DJ T-ex and drinks are available at a cash bar.

The event is hosted by the Thomas P. Turner Foundation and proceeds benefit Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, Southern Hancock and Eastern Hancock schools. Tickets are at eventbrite.com/e/511248647467. For more on the foundation, visit thomaspturnerfoundation.com.

EH to host community meetings

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Eastern Hancock will host its next Community and Family Engagement events Feb. 8, featuring two meetings for the community.

The meeting at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 8 is for community partners, geared for business and leaders in the community to make sure graduates have the skills and attributes needed to be successful after high school.

The event at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 8 is for parents and family members of current Royals, in an effort to collaborate and communicate to create an “exceptional school experience.” Both meetings are tentatively planned for the high school library. Baseball film to celebrate Carl Erskine, Special Olympics

GREENFIELD – A screening of “The Best We’ve Got: The Carl Erskine Story” is scheduled for March 2 at the H.J. Ricks Centre for the Arts.

The event is sponsored by Special Olympics of Hancock County.

Special Olympics of Indiana has teamed up with Hoosier filmmaker Ted Green to share the life story of Indiana native Carl Erskine, who “had an immeasurable impact on Special Olympics,” according to the organization. The film highlights Erskine’s life as an advocate of acceptance and inclusion, his storied baseball career and his important role as a parent to a son with Down syndrome.

Small farm conference coming up

WEST LAFAYETTE – Registration is now open for the 2023 Indiana Small Farm Conference. The 11th annual conference and trade show will take place March 2-3 at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds in Danville.

One of the featured keynote speakers is Hunter Smith, former Indianapolis Colts punter and co-owner of Wonder Tree Regenerative Farm in Zionsville.
