INDIANAPOLIS — In a dual between two boys wrestling teams that could meet again as early as Saturday, Greenfield-Central, ranked No. 3 in the Indiana High School Wrestling Coaches Association Class 3A poll, lost 42-27 to Class 3A No. 1, Roncalli Wednesday at Roncalli High School.

In the overall IndianaMat.com rankings, the Cougars are No. 17 and the Royals are No. 10.

Both are part of the Class 3A eight-team IHSWCA State Duals tournament Saturday at Franklin Community High School. The Cougars are the No. 3 seed. The Royals are No. 1. The teams are on opposite sides of the bracket.

Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Greenfield-Central opens against No. 6 seed Hobart. Roncalli will take on Terre Haute South.

Wednesday’s match at Roncalli featured three undefeated wrestlers. All three left the mat still perfect on the season.

Greenfield-Central 170-pounder Clay Guenin improved to 23-0 with a victory by fall over James Dozier. Roncalli’s unbeaten 152-pounder Bryce Lowery won by technical fall, 17-2, over Isaiah Holden. The Royals Luke Hansen, undefeated in the 195-pound class, defeated G-C’s Tristen Lanum by technical fall, 22-4.

The Cougars got off to a good start. Guenin’s victory was the opening match of the night. Silas Frye (182) followed with a win by fall over Keith Nara. Following two Cougar losses, heavyweight Brayden Flener picked up a victory by pin to give Greenfield-Central an 18-10 lead.

G-C forfeited at 106. Cougar Lincoln Parsons followed with a 7-4 decision over Blake Getz, but the Royals were able to take the next three contests.

At 138, Greenfield-Central’s Kannon Zuber won by fall over Patrick McGinley. The Royals followed with wins in the final three matches.
