The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports and are routine inspections, unless otherwise noted.

Aug. 30

Needler’s Fresh Market

5802 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine

Violations found: C, R – lunch meat dated as with sell-by date longer than seven days, bulk piece of pastrami not date-marked, corrected; NC – small amount of mold on ceiling in produce cutting area, some debris build-up in walk-in cooler in deli area, to be corrected by Sept. 7.

Chicago’s Pizza

Violation found: NC, R – mold and debris build-up on racks in walk-in cooler; debris on storage rack in dish-washing area, to be corrected by Sept. 15.

Cortona’s Italian Cuisine and Wine Bar

Violation found: NC – gap under back door in kitchen, to be corrected by Sept. 9.

Violation found: NC – some debris build-up on floors under equipment in kitchen and on ceiling, to be corrected by Sept. 30.

Violations found: ice build-up on freezer unit and floor, to be corrected by Oct. 2; NC – debris build-up on freezer floor, floors throughout especially in corners and tile joints, to be corrected by Sept. 12; NC – food stored on floor in freezer; NC – seal broken between prep station and wall, to be corrected by Sept. 12; NC – sticky residue built on soda machine nozzles and dispenser arms, to be corrected by Sept. 12; C – cheese being held at 64 degrees, needs to be kept at 41 degrees or cooler, corrected.
